Job description

INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
Under general supervision of the Site Principal or Designee; assists teacher in the instruction of students; works with individual or small groups of students in specific segments of instruction; and other work as assigned.
POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION
Reports to: School Site Principal or Designee
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under supervision to assist teachers in the instruction and development of students
• Works with individual, or small and large groups of students in specific segments of instruction
• May assist in the administration of various tests and measurements of student development. Perform duties in a language lab
• Performs a variety of clerical and record keeping activities such as taking roll, collecting monies, filling out forms and applications, and correcting papers
• Prepares bulletin boards and displays as instructed
• Sets up and arranges supplies and equipment
• Assists children with details of specific projects
• Supervises playground and physical education activities
• Deals effectively with children in situations requiring poise and patience
• Establishes and maintains good working relationships with others
• Participates in workshops and in-services as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and some applicable experience working with children.
Must pass proficiency test as legislated by the State of California
Must possess a California Drivers License and must submit to a Motor Vehicle check as required
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of use of various office machines
• Knowledge of general needs and behavior of children
• Knowledge of basic elements of child growth and development
• Ability to perform general clerical work
• Ability to learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties
• Must be physically fit to lead and participate in a variety of vigorous activities.
• Ability to see and hear conditions relating to the safety of self and others.
• Ability to speak in an indoor and outdoor setting well enough to project voice throughout classroom, playground and multipurpose room.
• Strength to lift/carry equipment/supplies/children up to 50 pounds.
• Must have adequate body movement or mobility to stoop, bend, reach and climb.
