Job description

Our Direct Client has a new Junior Purchasing Specialist job. The Purchasing Specialist will manage and coordinate the procurement of supplies, spare parts, equipment, and services required for operations. This role focuses on supplier communication, purchase order processing, inventory support, and maintaining accurate procurement records while ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing.

Essential Job Functions

Level Impact Language:

  • Assist in sourcing products, materials, and services from approved vendors.
  • Prepare, review, and process purchase orders (PO’s).
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, product availability, and delivery schedules.
  • Track orders and follow up on delayed shipments.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and vendor information.
  • Support inventory management by monitoring stock levels and assisting with replenishment.
  • Ensure purchases comply with company policies and budget requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to understand purchasing needs.
  • Assist in resolving order discrepancies and vendor issues.

Skills/Abilities

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1-2 years of purchasing experience, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Knowledge of:
    • Marine equipment, vessel types, and maritime terminology
    • International Sourcing and Logistics
    • Marine classification society requirements and safety standards
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation and communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., ShipServ, ShipNet, Oracle, or similar systems)
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus
