Job description

Overview:

The Senior Web Designer & Developer is a modern AI builder who designs, ships, and maintains the applications, agents, and automations behind Inovalon's marketing and digital experiences. The core of the role is production engineering in Python, TypeScript, and React, paired with a demonstrated background building agentic systems on frameworks such as CrewAI, Mastra, LangGraph, and LangChain.

Equally important is a strong marketing technology foundation: this person connects what they build to the platforms marketing actually runs on, including marketing automation, CRM, analytics, tag management, and the data moving between them. WordPress remains part of the estate and the person in this seat keeps it healthy and extends it, but the center of gravity is modern application and agent development. You will partner closely with Marketing to ensure brand aesthetic, voice, and experience are cohesive and consistent across all channels.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship production AI features and agentic systems, including multi-agent orchestration, tool and function calling, retrieval and RAG patterns, structured output, memory and state management, prompt and context engineering, and human-in-the-loop approval flows.
  • Build on modern agentic frameworks such as CrewAI, Mastra, LangGraph, and LangChain, integrate with LLM APIs and MCP servers, and choose the right framework for the problem rather than defaulting to a single one.
  • Establish evaluations, tracing, monitoring, and guardrails for AI features and agents so that output quality, accuracy, latency, and cost are measured and improved over time.
  • Maintain and extend the internal agent fleet and the applications that depend on it, including internal tools used daily by Marketing and Sales.
  • Write production Python: services, APIs, data pipelines, and automations that move data between systems and support internal tooling.
  • Build performant, responsive, and accessible front ends in TypeScript and React, using Next.js for application, headless, and hybrid architectures.
  • Design and implement page layouts, component libraries, maintaining a scalable design system that supports rapid iteration.
  • Optimize Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse scores through code splitting, image optimization, critical CSS, caching, CDNs, and server-side performance tuning.
  • Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines and environments where appropriate; manage code reviews, branching, and releases with Git.
  • Harden security using least-privilege roles, secret management, WAF/CDN rules, and OWASP Top 10 mitigations; maintain reliable backup and rollback strategies.
  • Build and maintain integrations across the marketing technology stack, including marketing automation (Marketo), CRM (Salesforce), GA4, tag management, customer data and data-layer plumbing, and experimentation platforms.
  • Instrument campaigns and digital properties so that lead capture, routing, attribution, conversion tracking, and consent behave correctly end to end, and troubleshoot them when they do not.
  • Automate marketing operations work that is manual today, applying sound judgment about which steps stay human and where review is required.
  • Use AI tools responsibly to accelerate ideation, wireframing, content generation, asset production, and QA, applying sound judgment about where human review is required.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into roadmaps, user stories, and acceptance criteria; communicate progress, trade-offs, and timelines clearly.
  • Maintains compliance with Inovalon's policies, procedures and mission statement.
  • Adheres to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon's Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position.
  • Fulfills those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success of the Company.

Job Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive experience building and shipping production software and digital experiences, including ownership across both front end and back end.
  • Production Python expertise: writing and maintaining services, APIs, scripts, and data pipelines, working with common libraries, and integrating third-party systems.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript with production React experience, including Next.js in application, headless, or hybrid contexts.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on background building agentic systems with frameworks such as CrewAI, Mastra, LangGraph, or LangChain, including multi-agent orchestration, tool and
  • function calling, retrieval or RAG, memory and state, and structured output. Candidates should be prepared to walk through agents they have shipped, why they chose the framework, what failed, and how results were measured.
  • Practical experience with LLM API integration, prompt and context engineering, and evaluation of output quality; working familiarity with MCP servers, vector databases, and embeddings.
  • Marketing technology background: hands-on with a marketing automation platform (Marketo preferred), CRM (Salesforce preferred), GA4, and tag management, with a working understanding of lead flow, campaign instrumentation, attribution, and consent.
  • Working WordPress proficiency sufficient to own and extend existing properties: custom themes and plugins, Gutenberg blocks, ACF or equivalent, PHP 8+, and MySQL. Deeper WordPress expertise is welcome but secondary to Python, TypeScript, React, and agentic development.
  • Ability to write clean, semantic HTML and modern CSS (Flexbox, Grid) without relying solely on frameworks; familiarity with utility or component frameworks such as Tailwind or Bootstrap.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a design system and component library across design and code.
  • Solid database fundamentals with Postgres or MySQL and practical performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on with performance optimization and Core Web Vitals improvements.
  • Proven accessibility expertise with WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA implementation and testing.
  • Version control and DevOps: Git workflows, environments, CI/CD, containerization with Docker, and deployment to common hosts; CDN and caching configuration.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development and design tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar, and a clear understanding of responsible and secure use.
  • Must maintain a publicly accessible profile (GitHub, personal website, or professional portfolio) demonstrating work built and contributed to, including code samples and at least one shipped agentic or AI-powered project the candidate can demo and explain in depth.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with workflow and integration platforms such as Workato, n8n, Zapier, or similar, connecting agents and automations to enterprise systems.
  • Experience with async Python and web or data libraries such as FastAPI, Pydantic, pandas, or similar.
  • Experience running evaluation frameworks for LLM applications and building regression suites for non-deterministic output.
  • Experience with Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, or similar edge and CDN platforms.
  • Experience with GEO/AEO and how AI answer engines discover, consume, and represent web content.
  • Experience with Sitecore XM/XP, including component-based templating, personalization, and content modeling.
  • Familiarity with Node-based build tooling, package managers, and testing frameworks such as Jest, Playwright, Cypress, or PHPUnit.
  • Experience integrating REST and GraphQL APIs, CRM and MAP platforms, and data layers.
  • Understanding of privacy, consent management, HIPAA considerations for digital properties, and security best practices.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Sedentary work (i.e., sitting for long periods of time).
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force.
  • Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects and repetitive motions.
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions.
  • Travel for this position will include less than 5% locally, usually for training purposes.
