What is a landscaping subcontractor?

A Landscaping Subcontractor is a professional hired by a general contractor or landscaping company to perform specific tasks such as planting, irrigation, hardscaping, or lawn maintenance. They typically work on residential or commercial landscaping projects and follow the main contractor’s specifications. Subcontractors are responsible for providing their own tools, labor, and sometimes materials. This role requires expertise in landscaping techniques, time management, and compliance with local regulations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a landscaping subcontractor?

To thrive as a Landscaping Subcontractor, you need expertise in landscape installation and maintenance, strong project management skills, and a solid understanding of horticultural practices, often backed by prior experience or training in landscaping. Familiarity with landscaping tools, heavy equipment, safety protocols, and relevant certifications such as OSHA training or pesticide applicator licenses is highly beneficial. Excellent time management, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills set top subcontractors apart when coordinating with general contractors and clients. These skills ensure quality workmanship, safe job sites, and effective collaboration, all of which are essential for meeting project goals and maintaining client satisfaction.

What does a typical project workflow look like for a landscaping subcontractor?

As a Landscaping Subcontractor, your typical project workflow begins with reviewing project plans and site layouts provided by the general contractor, followed by preparing the job site and coordinating with other trades on timing and access. You'll be responsible for sourcing materials, overseeing installation of plants, irrigation, hardscapes, and conducting site clean-ups as work progresses. Projects often involve troubleshooting on-site issues, adapting to weather or scheduling delays, and ensuring that all work meets specified quality standards and safety regulations. Close collaboration with project managers, suppliers, and team members is key to keeping projects on track and delivering results that meet client expectations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Clients First Landscape Solutions is looking for an experienced, bilingual Field Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations across our commercial landscape job sites. We work across Texas as well as Florida, Arkansas, and Virginia, so this role requires travel to job sites outside the DFW area as needed. You'll be the critical link between our Project Managers and Field Foremen, keeping crews safe, schedules on track, and job sites running at the level our clients expect.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who takes pride in running a tight, professional operation and wants to grow with a company that's scaling fast. We doubled in size in 2024, doubled again in 2025, and are on track to grow another 50% this year, with a company-wide goal of reaching $100 million in revenue. That growth is creating long-term management positions for the right people, this can be the place you build your career in landscaping.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Oversee day-to-day field operations across multiple job sites in Texas and, as needed, our out-of-state markets in Florida, Arkansas, and Virginia

- Travel to job sites outside the DFW area as project needs require

- Partner with Project Managers to plan, schedule, and execute projects on time and on budget

- Support and coach Field Foremen to maintain production efficiency and hit project deadlines

- Enforce safety compliance across all crews and subcontractors, including proper PPE use at all times

- Conduct quality control inspections and resolve field-level issues quickly and professionally

- Serve as the primary communication link between management and field teams

- Allocate and manage equipment, including skid steers and excavators, across multiple sites

- Keep job sites clean, organized, and represent the company professionally at every site

- Deliver large-scale commercial landscape installations safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of craftsmanship

WHAT YOU BRING

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Roughly 80% of our field teams are native Spanish speakers, and clear communication with them is essential to this role

- OSHA 30 certification required

- 2+ years of landscape construction or related field supervision experience preferred

- Proven leadership, organizational, and multi-tasking skills

- Working knowledge of job site safety regulations and best practices

- Experience operating or directing skid steers and excavators

- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

- Willingness and ability to travel to job sites in Texas, Florida, Arkansas, and Virginia as needed

- A professional, solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving in the field

WHAT WE OFFER

- Pay: $60,000 - $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience

- Company vehicle provided for work use

- Paid Time Off (PTO)

- Real growth opportunities: we're on a trajectory toward $100 million in revenue and building out long-term management roles as we scale

- Active, hands-on ownership invested in developing our people and reinvesting in the company's future

- The chance to help build a national leader in commercial landscape services from the ground up

If you're a bilingual, safety-first leader who thrives on keeping fast-moving job sites organized, efficient, and professional, we want to hear from you. Apply today and help us build something big.
