What is a landscaping job?

Landscaping jobs involve the planning, installation, and maintenance of outdoor spaces, such as gardens, lawns, parks, and commercial properties. Tasks can include planting trees and shrubs, mowing lawns, installing irrigation systems, laying sod, and building features like walkways or retaining walls. Landscaping professionals may also design outdoor layouts and provide seasonal clean-up services. These jobs often require physical labor, basic horticultural knowledge, and the ability to operate various tools and machinery. Many landscaping positions are available immediately, especially during peak growing seasons.

To thrive as a Landscaper, you need knowledge of horticulture, landscaping techniques, and physical stamina, often gained through on-the-job experience or vocational training. Familiarity with landscaping tools, power equipment, irrigation systems, and sometimes pesticide application certifications is important. Attention to detail, teamwork, reliability, and good communication are vital soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure the creation and maintenance of attractive, safe, and functional outdoor spaces that meet client expectations.

Description:

ROLE: Landscape Builder – Install Crew Technician

WHAT WE DO:

At N.E.W. Landscape & Lawn Care, we don’t just build landscapes—we bring outdoor visions to life. From installing patios, drainage solutions, and irrigation systems to transforming properties with mulch, plants, and stone, we make outdoor spaces functional, beautiful, and built to last.

Working here is like running a small business within a business. You’ll face big challenges and put in serious work—but the pride of seeing a finished project you helped build is unmatched. We believe in ownership, growth, and teamwork. You’ll be held to our Core Values and expected to push your skills and mindset daily. Our mission is simple: create outdoor spaces people love coming home to—and grow good people in the process.

WHO WE ARE: (Our Core Values)

We do things differently—and our values are the reason why.

  • Lead with Integrity: We keep our word and follow through.
  • Build It Like It’s Yours: Every project gets the detail and craftsmanship it deserves.
  • Own Your Role: Step up, take responsibility, and solve problems.
  • Team Over Ego: We rise and win together—always.
  • Always Be Improving: Sharpen your skills. Learn something new. Grow.
  • Work Hard, Celebrate Harder: We crush it on-site, and we know how to have fun off it.
WHY JOIN OUR TEAM:
  • Hands-On Work: Build patios, plant beds, walkways, and more with a team that cares about quality.
  • Growth Opportunities: Learn to operate machinery, read landscape plans, and level up your skill set.
  • Team Environment: You'll work side-by-side with leaders who’ve got your back and push you to improve.
  • Visible Impact: Watch a jobsite go from dirt to dream—and know you built it.
  • Tools & Training: We invest in quality equipment and the people who run it.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • You’re a hard worker who loves working outside, rain or shine.
  • You have experience with landscaping, construction, or similar physical work.
  • You enjoy building things with your hands and solving on-the-job challenges.
  • You’re a team player who shows up ready to go and eager to learn.
  • You take pride in creating high-quality, finished work.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:DAILY OPERATIONS & JOB EXECUTION
  • Assist with landscape and hardscape installations, such as patios, plantings, mulch, sod, and drainage.
  • Follow direction from the Project Crew Leader and ask questions when needed.
  • Load and unload materials, set up job sites, and keep work areas clean and safe.
EQUIPMENT HANDLING & MAINTENANCE
  • Safely operate hand tools, wheelbarrows, shovels, compactors, saws, and other jobsite equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic maintenance of tools and machines.
QUALITY & SAFETY
  • Ensure accuracy in measurements, grades, and installations per design plans.
  • Follow safety protocols on every job site and report hazards immediately.
  • Double-check your work to ensure it's clean, solid, and ready for client approval.
TEAMWORK & COMMUNICATION
  • Work closely with your crew and communicate clearly with the leader.
  • Support the team—whether it’s lifting heavy materials or getting a job over the finish line.
  • Be reliable, respectful, and focused on solutions when challenges arise.
THIS JOB IS FOR YOU IF:
  • You enjoy seeing a job through from start to finish.
  • You’re proud of your work and love the smell of fresh mulch in the morning.
  • You’re hands-on, detail-oriented, and like a little dirt under your nails.
  • You want to grow your career in landscaping and learn from the best.
THIS JOB IS NOT FOR YOU IF:
  • You don’t enjoy physical labor or working outdoors in different weather.
  • You don’t like being part of a crew or taking direction.
  • You’re not interested in learning or improving your skills.
  • You’re frequently late or unwilling to follow safety standards.

N.E.W. Landscape & Lawn Care is growing fast, and we’re looking for people who want to grow with us. If you’re ready to bring your talent and work ethic to a crew that takes pride in craftsmanship, let’s talk.
