What is a landscape intern?

Landscape Interns are students or recent graduates who assist professional landscape architects, designers, or contractors with various tasks related to designing, planning, and maintaining outdoor spaces. They typically gain hands-on experience by working on projects such as gardens, parks, urban environments, and ecological restorations. Their responsibilities may include site analysis, drafting plans, preparing presentations, and supporting project management. The internship is an opportunity to learn industry skills, software, and sustainable practices while building a professional portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a landscape intern, and why are they important?

Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as basic hand-drafting and model-building skills, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help interns collaborate within teams and contribute innovative ideas. These skills and qualities are crucial for supporting project development, learning industry standards, and building a foundation for future professional growth.
