Landscape In information

Is landscaping a good career choice?

Landscaping is a viable career that involves designing, installing, and maintaining outdoor spaces, often requiring physical work and knowledge of plants and tools. It can offer steady employment, opportunities for advancement, and the chance to work outdoors, but it may involve seasonal work and physical demands. Certifications in horticulture or landscape design can enhance job prospects.

What are some common challenges faced by Landscape Installers in their day-to-day work?

Landscape Installers often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, managing heavy physical labor, and adapting to different types of terrain. Coordinating with designers, clients, and other team members to ensure installations meet both aesthetic and functional requirements is also common. Additionally, troubleshooting unexpected site issues, such as poor soil quality or unmarked utilities, requires problem-solving skills and adaptability.

Is $100 an hour too much for landscape work?

For a landscape in a professional setting, $100 an hour is generally above the average rate, which typically ranges from $25 to $75 per hour depending on experience, location, and project complexity. Skilled landscapers with specialized tools or certifications may charge higher rates, but $100 an hour is considered premium for standard landscape work.

What jobs are included in landscaping?

Landscaping jobs include roles such as landscape laborers, landscape designers, horticulturists, irrigation technicians, and landscape architects. These positions involve tasks like planting, lawn maintenance, designing outdoor spaces, installing irrigation systems, and operating landscaping equipment. Skills in plant care, design, and knowledge of tools are often required.

What is the difference between Landscape In vs Landscape Architect?

AspectLandscape InLandscape Architect
CredentialsTypically requires a high school diploma or associate degree; licensing not always requiredRequires a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture and licensure
Work EnvironmentFieldwork, installation, and maintenance sitesDesign offices, client meetings, site planning
Industry UsageCommonly used in landscaping, gardening, and maintenance companiesUsed in design firms, urban planning, and large-scale projects

Landscape In professionals focus on installation and maintenance, often with less formal education. Landscape Architects are trained designers with formal education and licensing, handling planning and design of outdoor spaces. Both roles are essential in the landscaping industry but differ mainly in education, responsibilities, and work scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Landscape Installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Landscape Installer, strong knowledge of horticulture, landscape construction techniques, and physical stamina are essential, often supported by a high school diploma or specialized training. Familiarity with landscaping tools, irrigation systems, and safety certifications like OSHA are typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and reliable communication are important soft skills for delivering quality work and collaborating on-site. These skills and qualities ensure that landscape projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to client specifications.

What are Landscape Inspectors?

Landscape Inspectors are professionals responsible for evaluating landscaping projects to ensure they meet design specifications, safety standards, and local regulations. They inspect sites during and after installation, checking elements such as plant health, soil conditions, irrigation systems, and overall design compliance. Their work helps maintain high-quality landscapes in public and private spaces, and they often collaborate with contractors, architects, and city officials. Landscape Inspectors play a vital role in ensuring that landscaping projects are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

What is the highest paying job in landscaping?

The highest paying jobs in landscaping typically include landscape architects and project managers, who often earn higher salaries due to advanced education, certifications, and management responsibilities. These roles require strong design skills, knowledge of horticulture, and experience overseeing large projects or teams.

Job description

Description

Build Something Beautiful. Lead a Team That Takes Pride in Every Project.

Did you know that Ryan Lawn & Tree is a $100M+ professional Lawn & Landscape company? We've built one of the most respected lawn and tree care companies in the Midwest - and serve customers across Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.  We're on a mission to raise the bar for our entire industry - attracting exceptional people, treating them right, and doing work that leaves a mark on every community we touch.

There's something deeply satisfying about stepping back at the end of the day and seeing what your crew built - a stunning hardscape, a perfectly planted design, a landscape that transformed a property and made a client's vision real. If that kind of work fires you up, Ryan Lawn & Tree wants you to lead one of our crews.

What You'll Do

  • Lead your crew. Manage and mentor a team of 2-4 crew members, setting the standard for quality, efficiency, and professionalism on every job site.
  • Bring designs to life. Oversee landscape projects of all scales - from planting trees, shrubs, and perennials to hardscaping, drainage, and everything in between.
  • Own the client experience. Interact with clients daily, communicate project progress, setting expectations, and making recommendations for additional Ryan services that would benefit their property.
  • Develop your people. Coach team members to sharpen their skills, work efficiently, and grow their landscape knowledge with every project.
  • Equip your team. Ensure every crew member has the tools, training, and resources needed to meet the demands of our customers.
  • Know your craft. Bring a thorough knowledge of Design/Build practices and a working familiarity with all Ryan services.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of landscape crew lead experience
  • General knowledge of equipment maintenance
  • Ability to safely operate equipment including trenchers and vibratory plows
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs. and push/pull objects while walking up to 3 miles per day
  • Valid driver's license; ability to obtain DOT medical certification
  • A strong work ethic, team-first attitude, and pride in the finished product

** SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION: This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the operation of vehicles and equipment. All candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana), criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical (where applicable) before starting employment. Candidates must meet all screening requirements as a condition of employment.

We hire great people for our employee-owned company. You will become a partner in the highest quality lawn and tree company in the Midwest. Why work at RYAN? In addition to being a non-smoking & EEOC company with advancement opportunities, other great benefits include:

  • Full time year around employment with a starting compensation of $43,000+ depending on experience with bonuses available.
  • Excellent benefits package to include: Health Insurance, Dental/Vision, 401k w/ company match, and more
  • 17 Paid Time Off (PTO) Days, 11 Paid Holidays and 1 Personal Floating Holiday
  • 100% Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Uniforms provided
