What is landscape design build?

Landscape design build is a comprehensive service that combines both the planning (design) and the execution (build) of outdoor spaces. In this approach, a single company or team handles the entire process, from creating the initial landscape plans to installing plants, hardscapes, and other features. This integrated method often leads to better communication, smoother project management, and more cohesive results. It also simplifies the process for clients, as they work with one provider from concept to completion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a landscape design build professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Landscape Design Build professional, you need expertise in landscape architecture, horticulture, and construction management, often supported by a degree in landscape design or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, project management tools, and relevant certifications such as CLARB or state licensure is typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and strong communication skills help professionals collaborate with clients and manage teams effectively. These skills are crucial for delivering functional, aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces while ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

What are some common challenges faced in a landscape design build role, and how are they typically addressed?

Professionals in Landscape Design Build often encounter challenges such as balancing creative design with client budgets, coordinating between design and construction teams, and managing project timelines amid weather or supply delays. Successful practitioners address these by maintaining clear communication with clients and team members, using project management tools, and developing contingency plans for unexpected issues. Regular site visits and collaborative meetings also help ensure the project stays aligned with the client’s vision and industry standards.

The ideal candidate is organized, hardworking, resourceful, and eager to learn. This is not a desk job. • Coordinate material deliveries and pick up materials from vendors and suppliers as needed
  • Help ensure teams have the information, materials, and support necessary to perform efficiently
  • Assist with project scheduling, logistics, and quality control
  • Support installation teams during landscape and hardscape installations when needed
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
  • Assist with landscape design presentations, design development, and project planning
  • Learn design strategy, construction sequencing, budgeting, and project execution from concept through completion
  • Help identify and solve problems before they impact project schedules or quality
  • Perform a variety of tasks as needed to help projects run smoothly and successfully

Areas We Serve

Most of our projects are located throughout Long Island's North Shore communities, including Lloyd Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor, Oyster Bay, Muttontown, Brookville, Manhasset, and surrounding areas.

What You'll Gain

This position works directly alongside the Founder & Creative Director, supporting both the design and construction sides of the business while learning the complete design-build process from concept through installation.

  • Direct mentorship from the Founder & Creative Director
  • Exposure to every stage of the design-build process
  • Hands-on experience in landscape design, project management, and construction
  • Real-world experience working on high-end residential properties
  • Opportunities for advancement and increased responsibility
  • A career path within a growing, award-winning firm

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Comfortable working both outdoors and in an office environment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required
  • Ability to lift materials and assist with field operations when necessary
  • Experience in landscaping, construction, horticulture, design, or project management

Compensation
