Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 Annually

Location: Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco

Type: Full-Time

Department: Architecture

Role Overview

We are seeking a Job Captain to serve as a core production contributor on multifamily residential and mixed-use projects. Working under the direction of a Project Manager or Senior Job Captain, the Job Captain executes the majority of design development and construction documentation work on assigned projects — producing accurate, coordinated, and code-compliant drawing sets that form the backbone of project delivery. This role requires strong drafting proficiency, a thorough understanding of building systems and construction standards, and the ability to work alongside peers and junior staff to keep documentation moving and quality high.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation & Technical

  • Prepare, review, and check construction document sets across design development and CD phases, including floor plans, elevations, building sections, wall sections, and architectural details
  • Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, MEP, civil, and landscape consultants; identify and flag conflicts to the Project Manager or Senior Job Captain for resolution
  • Apply working knowledge of CBC, Title 24, ADA, and relevant local codes to ensure drawing sets are accurate and compliant throughout all phases
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of architectural detailing and building systems — including lighting, HVAC, structural, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical

Project Coordination & Administration

  • Assist in organizing permit packages, coordinating building department submissions, and tracking outstanding items under direction of senior staff
  • Support construction administration including RFI responses, shop drawing review, and submittal tracking
  • Participate in field survey efforts for as-built documentation; verify existing conditions and document discrepancies accurately
  • Maintain organized project files throughout all phases, including drawing logs, revision histories, and consultant correspondence

Team Coordination & Professional Development

  • Collaborate with production team members, designers, and consultants to keep drawing sets coordinated and schedules on track
  • Work alongside Designer 1 and Designer 2 staff on assigned tasks, providing drawing direction and answering technical questions
  • Participate in team meetings, internal drawing reviews, and QC checks; incorporate feedback from senior staff into revised work
  • Actively pursue AXP hours and work toward licensure with the support of firm mentors

Qualifications

Required

  • Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
  • 5-7 years of experience in a professional architecture office with demonstrated experience producing construction documents on multifamily residential or mixed-use projects
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of CBC, ADA, Title 24, and relevant building codes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage a high volume of technical drawing work accurately and efficiently
  • Effective communication skills and ability to coordinate with team members, consultants, and agency reviewers

Preferred

  • Licensed Architect in California or actively pursuing ARE licensure
  • Experience coordinating permit submittals and plan check corrections through California building departments
  • Familiarity with architectural specifications
  • Exposure to SketchUp or other 3D tools for coordination and design review support

What This Role Offers

  • Hands-on involvement in the full construction documentation process across a diverse range of multifamily residential and mixed-use projects in California and the Western U.S.
  • A technically rigorous environment where strong production skills are recognized, with a clear advancement pathway toward Senior Job Captain
  • Mentorship from Senior Job Captains, Project Managers, and Principals invested in your technical growth and path toward licensure
