About the Position: The Assistant State Roadside Development Manager provides statewide oversight and administrative support for MDOT's roadside development and vegetation-management activities. This position serves as the Department's lead on invasive species prevention, detection, treatment, monitoring, and reporting on state right-of-way. This position also helps organize district training, develop standards and treatment strategies, establish statewide performance measures, and manage vegetation management contracts.Duties:• Assist in implementation of the Statewide Roadside Development Program and independently manage major programs and assignments delegated by the State Roadside Development Manager.• Provide direction and technical support to district roadside development managers and maintenance personnel while directly supervising assigned central-office staff, consultants, or contractors as authorized.• Advise districts on vegetation-management methods, treatment timing, contract performance, and environmental safeguards.• Develop, maintain, and implement a statewide invasive species management plan with defined program goals, priority species, priority corridors and assets, treatment thresholds, schedules, funding needs, and measurable outcomes.• Assist in statewide management of roadside vegetation establishment, mowing and selective-maintenance practices, brush and tree management, landscape enhancement, native-plant and wildflower initiatives, and other roadside development programs.• Assist in administering MDOT's Vegetation Management Contract with MSU.• Perform statewide field reviews and program assessments to promote consistent practices, verify treatment results, identify training or resource gaps, and develop needed corrective action.• Support timely and technically sound responses to complaints, treatment concerns, damage allegations, invasive-species discoveries, and emerging roadside threats.• Represent MDOT on committees, working groups, and technical forums and maintain productive partnerships with state and federal agencies, universities, local governments, utilities, industry organizations, consultants, and contractors.
