We’re seeking a Land Development Project Manager to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for land development initiatives in Northern California. This role is centered on client leadership, team development, and advancing complex site development projects from vision to reality. You’ll partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions, deepen client relationships, and help expand our land development presence in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and project management for land development projects, including site planning, grading, drainage, utilities, and entitlement support
  • Coordinate agency approvals, permitting, technical studies, and consultant teams to ensure efficient project execution
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client communications from concept through construction
  • Leverage internal resources and build a local consultant network to support scalable land development delivery
  • Champion quality, innovation, and continuous improvement in land development engineering practices
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical and professional leadership to grow a high-performing local team
  • Promote the firm’s full range of services and actively cross-sell to land development, private, and public-sector clients
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, municipalities, and business partners to increase regional visibility and market presence

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required
  • 10+ years of experience in land development engineering, including site design and project management for residential, commercial, mixed-use, or industrial developments
  • Strong technical background in land development design, including site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and off-site improvements
  • Proven ability to lead land development projects from concept planning and entitlements through final design, permitting, and construction support
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with clients, agencies, internal teams, and project stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining client relationships and strategically positioning for new project opportunities
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to pursue new land development projects, help establish a local market presence, and grow and lead a small team
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to pursue, win, and deliver land development projects

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
