Job description

Job Title: Coating Technician

Job Description

The Coating Technician works in a brand-new coatings department within a downhole tool machine shop, preparing and processing parts using phosphate and/or nickel coating methods. This role involves mixing chemicals, operating coating vats, and handling downhole tool components to ensure high-quality, consistent finishes in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain equipment in the coatings department to process downhole tool parts using phosphate and nickel coating methods.
  • Mix and prepare chemicals according to established formulas and safety procedures for use in coating vats.
  • Load, submerge, and remove parts from coating vats, ensuring correct process times, coverage, and quality standards.
  • Perform sandblasting and grinding operations on parts as required to prepare surfaces for coating.
  • Inspect coated parts for quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications, and report any defects or irregularities.
  • Handle and move parts, materials, and equipment using forklifts and overhead cranes in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Follow all safety protocols related to chemical handling, material movement, and equipment operation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and assist with routine maintenance and housekeeping in the coatings department.
  • Collaborate with production and manufacturing teams to meet daily output targets and support continuous improvement.
  • Accurately follow work instructions and document required production or process information as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with nickel or phosphate coating processes in a shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to mix and handle chemicals safely and accurately for use in industrial coating processes.
  • Experience operating a forklift in a production or warehouse setting.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane to move parts and materials.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and production workflows.
  • Ability to perform sandblasting and grinding tasks for part preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following safety procedures.
  • Ability to work full-time day shifts from Monday to Friday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a downhole tool, oilfield tools, or similar industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a coatings department or surface treatment role.
  • Comfort working with mechanical parts and tools in a machine shop setting.

Work Environment

Work is performed on a day shift schedule, Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The facility has expanded into a second location with additional machines, office space, a cafeteria, and a small gym available for use outside of work hours. The culture is described as laid back with an open-door policy, while maintaining clear expectations that employees complete their work safely and efficiently.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
