Director of Finance
Position Summary
Our client is a growing, private equity-backed bioscience company seeking a hands-on Finance Director to lead all accounting, financial reporting, planning, and business analytics functions. This role combines the responsibilities of a Controller with the strategic mindset of a finance leader who can provide meaningful insights to support executive decision-making and drive business performance.
The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable managing the day-to-day accounting operations while developing financial models, KPIs, dashboards, and analytical tools that help leadership make informed strategic decisions. This individual will serve as a key business partner to the executive team and private equity stakeholders, helping build the financial infrastructure necessary to support continued growth and value creation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team to provide financial insights that support strategic initiatives and operational decision-making.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and management reporting tools.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Analyze business performance, profitability, pricing, customer trends, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for growth and efficiency.
  • Support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, capital investments, and other value-creation activities.
  • Prepare financial presentations and analyses for the Board of Directors, lenders, and private equity sponsors.
Controller & Accounting Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Build and maintain financial models to support business planning and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop reporting packages that provide actionable insights into revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, and profitability.
  • Perform variance analysis and identify key business drivers impacting financial performance.
  • Evaluate pricing strategies, product profitability, customer profitability, and operational efficiencies.
  • Support management with scenario planning and sensitivity analysis.
Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Lead and mentor accounting and finance staff.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and optimize financial systems, reporting tools, and data analytics capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong foundation in financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Experience overseeing full-cycle accounting operations.
  • Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to executive leadership and investors.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
Preferred
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed company.
  • Experience within bioscience, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, laboratory services, or related industries.
  • Experience building financial reporting dashboards and business intelligence tools.
  • Familiarity with KPI development, operational analytics, and value-creation initiatives.
