Lead Mechanical/Electrical Technician
Job Description
The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for assisting students and faculty in the selections, installation and upkeep of academic laboratory equipment used for instruction but will also have general technical and facilities duties for the college. The position reports to the Director of Operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES):
  • Aids students and faculty in the selection, installation and upkeep of academic laboratory equipment used for instruction and research.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on various equipment; constructs, tests, and evaluates equipment and processes; maintains laboratory equipment and instructs students in the proper use of equipment; establishes and oversees standard operating procedures.
  • Must have fabrication skills, including machining and welding skills
  • Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of laboratory equipment used for instructional activities.
  • Updates equipment maintenance records and manuals and records; and, orders related laboratory materials and supplies. • Provides assistance with ECS building/facility logistical functions.
  • Handles general technician assignments (overseeing the moving of equipment or offices, etc.). Maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a laboratory technician or related field.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability:
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic laboratory technical skills.
  • Good writing skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of Labview or willingness/aptitude to lean.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals with varied backgrounds.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices in compliance with OSHA and EPA requirements.
  • Able to work a varied schedule.

Preferred Qualifications
Two plus years of experience in an engineering related technician position. Knowledge, experience and the ability to provide guidance and training to students and other personnel in Labview. Vocational training in any of the following areas (or combination of areas): welding, lab technician, lathe and mill operation, mechanical training.
Physical Demands
The ability to: walk and climb stairs unassisted, move and carry heavy objects.
