Job description

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring a Senior Labour Relations Specialist on a permanent basis.

We are seeking a strategic negotiator who thrives in ambiguity, thinks creatively, and can confidently balance priorities in a fast-moving landscape. This is an exciting opportunity to navigate the complexities of a dynamic, multi-union environment as part of a supportive team that trusts you to own your work.

This role is primarily remote, with approximately 20% travel across Saskatchewan. While the preferred location is Saskatchewan, candidates in Alberta or Manitoba may be considered for the right fit.

What you'll do:

  • Lead collective bargaining negotiations by serving as management's chief spokesperson, developing mandates, presenting proposals, and securing agreement approvals.

  • Build trusted partnerships with senior leaders, HR teams, and business stakeholders to align bargaining strategies with organizational priorities and market trends.

  • Analyze bargaining outcomes, maintain detailed negotiation records, and identify opportunities to improve future labour relations strategies.

  • Support business continuity planning by assisting with labour negotiations and preparing for potential work stoppages.

Who you'll work with:
You will report to the Senior Manager, Labour Relations as part of a team of four. As one of three Senior Labour Relations Specialists, you will support a portfolio of local Co-ops and work closely with internal teams including Total Rewards, Employee Experience, and HR Business Partnering.

Why it matters:
We help local Co-ops grow and thrive by offering a range of professional services, including marketing, market research, information technology, human resources, accounting, risk management and business development.

Who you are:
You are looking for a career in labour relations and:

  • Have a minimum of 6-9 years of experience as a Labour Relations Advisor within a complex, multi-union environment.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations, Labour Studies, Human Resources, or Commerce (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Have planned collective bargaining negotiations, acting as the Lead Negotiator in a multi-employer environment with multiple stakeholders, including successfully advancing bargaining strategies and outcomes.
  • Are highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications with a proven ability to embrace emerging technologies and digital environments.
  • Are adaptable to navigate a complex schedule and balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salaries, short-term incentives, a comprehensive benefits package, and an employer-contributed pension plan.
  • Hybrid work arrangement, primarily home-based, with travel required as business needs dictate.

  • Encouragement to take advantage of learning opportunities to grow and develop as a Team Member.
