Job description

Do you have a passion for tools, construction, and a job well done? Are you in the market for a good starting wage with opportunities for overtime? We're Sanderson Concrete (http://www.sandersonconcrete.ca/) , and we design and manufacture exceptional concrete products for the landscape, building, and architectural trades. Whether we're making walls, steps, planters, or signage for parks and buildings, we provide our clients an incredible range of products and finishes to choose from. We've been growing in the last few years, and now we're looking to add a few sets of hands around the shop to keep our business going in the right direction. That's where you come in  As our new Concrete Labourer and Finisher, you’ll be involved in the manufacture of a range of concrete products coming through our shop: we’ve done everything from concrete ping pong tables to art installations (like 12-foot long salmon sculptures), so you really never know what’s going to be coming through the door next. We make precast concrete for some of the most exciting and iconic projects in and around Vancouver – UBC, SFU, Robson Square, Kits Beach, Metro Vancouver Parks and more (hey – our precast concrete is even at the Grand Canyon and New York City!) All of this and you work at one location – here at our Surrey plant – and mostly under cover (some outside work – but our buildings are heated in the winter, so if you are a construction labourer, say goodbye to 8 hours a day outside in the rain!) And lay-offs? Nope! We have not had seasonal layoffs in over 10 years! Your most important qualification for this role will be consistency and reliability: you’ll need to be punctual, do good work, and finish tasks on time to succeed here. You’ll also be doing a fair bit of learning on the job, so it’s important that you’re good at taking direction, and don’t need to be told everything twice. We’re willing to train for this position, so if you’ve got some competency with tools and a good work ethic, you have everything you need to start a career with us. Practically speaking, you will: * Pour concrete moulds * Strip, oil, and prepare concrete forms * Polish and sandblast forms * Troubleshoot for inconsistencies in finished products * Maintain the shop floor for cleanliness and safety * Work according to safety guidelines at all times * Learn other aspects of our trade, like welding and working in our carpentry shop We’re looking for people right away, so if you’re great with your hands and looking to make a good wage, we’re waiting to hear from you. Working @ Sanderson We’re looking to fill five positions, which will be a full-time and permanent. Hours will be from 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. You’ll make a great wage, starting at $20 to $25 an hour (or higher), plus overtime, depending on your experience. We also offer full benefits after three months, life insurance, and a steady, regular supply of work. The best part of working with us is the people: we’ve got a great team, many of whom have been here for 15+ years. This is a special yard where staff are taken care of. We provide coveralls, so all you need to bring is steel toed boots. Almost all of our work is done indoors; and with a regular schedule, you’ll have all the time you need for life outside of work. You’ll also have opportunities for advancement as you gain new skills. If you’re willing to do the work and learn on the job, we’ll make sure you’re compensated for it. Qualifications * Familiarity with power tools * Mechanical inclination * Basic math skills, and ability to take accurate measurements and do simple calculations (IE – you should know your way around a tape measure) * Experience in construction/fabrication or a related industry would be an asset * Experience with concrete finishing would be an asset * Ability to lift/carry 50+ lbs * High school diploma or equivalent * Must own steel-toe safety boots How to Apply Our online application will give you the option to apply to this role as a complete person – not just a resume. The application will assess your qualifications, personality traits and workplace preferences, and should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. After submitting, you'll receive an email inviting you to log in and view your assessment results. We value diversity and inclusion and encourage all qualified people to apply. If we can make this easier through accommodation in the recruitment process, please contact us with the “Help” button in the application. We will review applications, with priority given to those who have completed the assessment, and look forward to hearing from you.
