Job description

The Melt Operator position is a critical team-based role responsible for supporting the success of the production process. This entry-level position requires no prior experience-just a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. You'll be working in a physically demanding environment that is warm, loud, and fast-paced. Candidates must be comfortable standing for long periods, working in confined spaces, and handling molten metal with confidence and care.
This position offers opportunities for cross-training in multiple production-related tasks, helping you grow your skills and advance within the company.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor furnace conditions and take accurate readings
  • Perform refractory repairs to cupola, ladles, and furnaces
  • Safely handle, haul, and process molten iron
  • Slag off and dump furnaces; rod as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of the melt area and production yard
  • Operate yard crane, bobcat, and forklift
  • Load and unload railcars; break up returns
  • Receive and process scrap metals
  • Accurately weigh and charge metals
  • Adjust chemistry of iron as needed
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • No prior experience or educational background required
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Able to work in a loud, hot, physically intense environment
  • Team-first mindset with a strong sense of responsibility
Work Schedule
  • 12 hour shifts, depending on plant needs
