Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Laborer performs general construction labor tasks in support of excavation, underground utility, and related field operations for the Company. Working under the direction of the Site Superintendent or assigned Crew Foreman, the Laborer assists with site preparation, pipe installation, material handling, trench work, backfill, and site cleanup activities across active project sites. This position requires physical stamina, dependability, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a field crew. The Laborer role serves as an entry point into the Company's field operations and offers growth opportunity for motivated individuals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the position and are not exhaustive. The Company may modify responsibilities to meet business needs.
General Field Labor
  • Perform manual labor tasks in support of daily field operations, including hand digging, trenching, backfill, compaction, grading preparation, and site cleanup.
  • Assist equipment operators and crew foremen with ground-level work including spotting, hand finishing grades, and clearing material from the work area.
  • Load and unload pipe, fittings, conduit, aggregate, and other construction materials from delivery trucks; stage materials at the direction of the Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Set up and break down job sites, including installation of safety fencing, barricades, delineators, and signage.
  • Assist with the connection and placement of pipe, fittings, couplings, and related underground utility components under the direction of the Foreman.
Light Equipment Operation
  • Operate light construction equipment such as plate compactors, jumping jacks, walk-behind trenchers, and powered hand tools under the supervision and direction of the Site Superintendent or Foreman.
  • Operate skid steers or similar small equipment as trained and authorized by the Company.
  • Perform pre-operation equipment checks and report any equipment issues or maintenance needs to the Foreman promptly.
Site Preparation amp; Cleanup
  • Assist with clearing, grubbing, and site preparation activities prior to and during construction operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the project site on a daily basis.
  • Remove construction debris, spoil material, and waste from the work area as directed.
  • Assist with project demobilization and site restoration activities at project completion.
Safety
  • Follow all Company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements at all times.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed boots, and eye and hearing protection.
  • Comply with all trench safety, excavation, and shoring requirements as directed by the Competent Person on site.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and pre-task safety briefings before work begins.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, hazards, or incidents to the Foreman or Site Superintendent immediately.
Documentation amp; Communication
  • Complete daily timesheets accurately and submit as required by Company policy.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with crew members, foremen, and supervisors.
  • Follow verbal and written directions accurately and ask for clarification when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education amp; Experience
  • Prior construction, excavation, or general labor experience preferred; entry-level candidates with demonstrated physical capability and reliability will be considered.
  • Familiarity with underground utility, pipe installation, or earthwork operations a plus.
Certifications amp; Technical Skills
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred; must be obtained within introductory period if required by the Company.
  • Ability to operate common hand tools, power tools, and light construction equipment safely.
  • Ability to read and follow basic verbal and written work instructions.
  • Valid Texas driver's license preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Field-only position. Work is performed exclusively on active construction project sites.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
  • May be required to work extended hours, early starts, or occasional weekends to meet project schedule requirements.
  • Travel to project sites within the Company's service area required.
