How much do laboratory relocation jobs pay per hour?
What is a laboratory relocation?
A Laboratory Relocation job involves planning, coordinating, and executing the safe transfer of laboratory equipment, materials, and research assets from one location to another. This process requires careful handling of sensitive instruments, hazardous materials, and specialized tools to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Professionals in this role work closely with scientists, facility managers, and logistics teams to minimize downtime and ensure a smooth transition.
What are some common challenges faced during laboratory relocations and how are they managed?
Laboratory relocations often involve the safe transport of delicate equipment, hazardous materials, and temperature-sensitive samples, which can present significant logistical and regulatory challenges. Professionals in this role carefully plan each stage, coordinate with vendors and scientific staff, and adhere to strict safety and compliance guidelines to minimize risks. Teams typically conduct pre-move assessments and develop contingency plans to address potential disruptions. Collaboration with researchers, facility managers, and external movers is key to ensuring a smooth transition. By anticipating and proactively addressing these challenges, you help maintain research integrity and minimize downtime in laboratory operations.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the laboratory relocation position, and why are they important?
To thrive in Laboratory Relocation, you need expertise in laboratory procedures, equipment handling, and logistics planning, often supported by a background in laboratory science or project management. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), safe handling protocols for hazardous materials, and certifications such as OSHA compliance are highly beneficial. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and organizational skills are essential for coordinating complex moves and troubleshooting issues as they arise. These skills are crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant transfer of sensitive laboratory assets without disrupting ongoing research or operations.

OUR COMMUNITY
Kewanee, located in Henry County with a population of approximately 12,000, is a welcoming and tight‑knit community known for its strong Midwestern values, historic downtown, and deep agricultural and industrial roots. The community offers a blend of small‑town comfort and practical amenities, including locally owned restaurants, boutique shops, multiple parks, and year‑round family‑friendly events.
Kewanee School District #229 provides comprehensive educational opportunities, including career‑focused programming and extracurricular activities that support student growth. The community is also home to Johnson Sauk Trail State Park, a regional destination offering hiking, fishing, camping, and scenic lake views—an excellent resource for outdoor recreation and wellness.

OUR HOSPITAL
Hammond‑Henry Hospital, headquartered in nearby Geneseo and serving the broader regional area—including Kewanee—has been committed to exceptional patient care since 1901. As an independent, financially strong Critical Access Hospital, we continue to earn national recognition for quality, safety, and patient experience.
Our accolades include:
-
“Top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals” – The Chartis Center for Rural Health
-
“Most Wired” designation for technology and innovation
-
CMS “5‑Star” ratings for patient experience
-
4‑ and 5‑Star HCAHPS performance through the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network for the past five years
-
CMS “5‑Star” Long‑Term Care Center for 12 consecutive years
With approximately 460 employees, Hammond‑Henry offers a comprehensive range of services including acute care, emergency medicine, imaging, laboratory, walk‑in clinics, home health, rehabilitation, neurology, sleep medicine, long‑term care, and surgical services. Our Kewanee clinic is an important extension of this system, providing accessible, community‑based care to the region.
OUR REHAB SERVICES
Our Rehabilitation Services Department offers a broad spectrum of care options for service line, setting, and patient type. We have multiple personal trainers, athletic trainers, cardiac/pulmonary therapy nurses, and speech, occupational, and physical therapists on staff. We cover inpatient, outpatient, home health, and we also have community outreach options. Our clinicians are comfortable treating chronic disorders, acute injuries, vestibular impairments, men’s/women’s health concerns, pediatric diagnosis and early intervention programming, outpatient neurology, sports medicine, and pre- and post-op orthopedics. Our facility offers a Hydroworx pool with zero entry, fully functioning treadmill, jet resistance, and underwater video for activity correction and visual feedback. Our Rehab Department also holds the contracts in surrounding school districts for athletic training.
OUR IMAGING SERVICES
We recently added Dynamic Digital Radiography, which is an upgraded x-ray machine that provides low dose radiation (lower than fluoroscopy) to view anatomical motion. This machine also allows us to stitch images so that long bones can be viewed with improved quality. Our MRI boasts an increased opening (71 cm) and sensory comforts (headphones and lighting) for comforting those with claustrophobia. The software upgrade improved our image quality and speed to equate to a 3T magnet MRI. We are also currently undergoing a fluoroscopy renovation which will conclude in August. We currently have three x-ray rooms (including fluoroscopy), three ultrasound rooms, one MRI, one CT, one bone density, 1 EMG, and one mammography room.
INSURANCE
Medical Insurance Coverage
We offer Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Saving Account insurance. HSAs have many advantages, including the fact premiums are much less expensive than other plans, such as PPOs. Because deductibles are typically higher with HSAs, members tend to be more careful when choosing healthcare options. For example, an employee might opt for a visit to Colona Clinic rather than the emergency room because s/he knows there will be a larger upfront expenditure. With an HSA, you may also open an account at Central Bank and divert pre-tax dollars into it. This way you are pre-funding your own medical expenses with pre-tax dollars. When you incur an expense, you simply use the debit card from your HSA at Central Bank to pay for it. When you do this, those dollars move from pre-tax to “no tax” because you are never taxed on them. In addition to receiving a tax benefit by using your HSA at Central Bank, Hammond-Henry Hospital matches the first $34.62 you divert to that account each pay day. That adds up to $900 in “free money” deposited into your account each year. HSA dollars do not expire and are yours the day they are deposited. No wait period, no vesting period. You can continue to use them for medical, dental, or vision expenses – tax-free – even after you’re no longer participating in an HSA.
- Dental Insurance Coverage is provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Orthodontia is covered at 50%, with a $1,000 cap.
- Vision Insurance Coverage is provided by Guardian VSP. Eye exams are only $10 a year under our plan.
- Basic Life Insurance includes receipt of $40,000 in free term life insurance and another $40,000 in free term accidental death and dismemberment insurance as a fulltime employee at Hammond-Henry Hospital
- Voluntary Life Insurance includes the option to purchase additional term life insurance and term accidental death and dismemberment insurance through easy payroll deduction. Prices are based on age but are very affordable and do not increase as you age. For example, if you are 50-54 years old, your rate if $.106 per $1,000 or only $1.06 per paycheck for $10,000 of coverage. Voluntary term life insurance is also available for your spouse and children. This insurance is offered only upon initial eligibility. There is a cap of $125,000.
PENSION PLAN
Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) Pension
Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pensions are offered by very few employers these days. We have a full pension which you cannot outlive. Once you are pension-eligible, you will draw that money as long as you live. There are also spouse continuation options with the plan. You contribute 4.5% of your pre-tax wage. HHH contributes the balance needed to fund today’s retirees. HHH’s contribution varies with current expenses and is always more than the employee portion. There is a 10-year vestment period before you are eligible for this lifelong pension. After one year of IMRF service, it also includes disability insurance and term life insurance, both free of charge. There is a wage cap of about $125,000, meaning after you’ve earned that amount, IMRF is not withheld for the rest of the calendar year.
- IMRF-VAC - You may make voluntary additional contributions into your IMRF pension account. This is an after-tax savings option which pays 7.25% interest. The interest is awarded only once a year, and you essentially forfeit the first and last year of interest due to the way it is You may elect to contribute up to 10% of your after-tax wage. You may opt to take it as an annuity after you retire, which means it is added to the value of your pension for an even bigger monthly check. You must be contributing to IMRF to contribute to IMRF-VAC.
OTHER BENEFITS
- Paid Time Off
As a new physician, you will accrue a generous amount of PTO for every hour worked up to 80 hours worked per pay period per your contract. - Long Term Sick Time
You will also accrue sick time, but at a slower rate. Our sick time is intended for more serious illnesses. If you call in one day due to headache, PTO usage is required. The accrual rate is .0192 per hour, which is 40 hours per year for an 80-hour employee. - 457(b) Plan
Similar to a 401(k) plan, this retirement income option allows either pre-tax or post-tax options through Edward Jones. There is no company match, but the hospital picks up all administrative fees and commissions. In some cases the fees we pay exceed other companies’ matches. 100% of your money goes into your account and is always yours with no vestment period. With a Roth plan (post-tax) the interest and growth you realize over the years is not taxed.
