Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary:

The Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is seeking an M.D. (D.O.) or Ph.D. faculty leader to lead its Division of Laboratory Medicine. Academic appointment will be at the level of Associate Professor or Professor (with candidacy for tenure) in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Texas Children's Hospital is the nation's largest children's hospital and is consistently ranked among the best children's hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR), holding the #1 position in Texas and being part of the USNWR's Honor Roll of Best Children's Hospitals. TCH is home to nationally top-ranked clinical programs, including pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery (#1), nephrology (#1), pediatric pulmonary medicine (#2), neurology and neurosurgery (#2), urology (#2), neonatology (#3) and cancer (#4). The hospital has a premier pediatric solid organ transplantation program that is the largest of its kind in the USA. Since 2012, the Texas Children's Pavilion for Women has steadily grown as a leading center for maternal-fetal medicine, adolescent gynecology, and fetal medicine/fetal surgery. In addition, the recently announced first-of-its-kind pediatric cancer care joint venture between Texas Children's Hospital and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will unite the nation's largest pediatric cancer center with the nation's leading comprehensive cancer center.

Summary

Texas Children's is searching for a MD (or PhD) clinical laboratory leader to direct its highly regarded Laboratory Medicine Division, comprised of MD and PhD faculty, technical and administrative staff. This individual should be well established in a CP subspecialty and have leadership experience in academic pathology. Subspecialties within the Division include Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Hematopathology, Immunology/Serology, Medical and Molecular Microbiology, Pathology Informatics, Point of Care Testing, and Virology.

Job Duties

This individual would be expected to contribute to scholarly activities, as well as help guide clinical pathology resident and fellow education. The newly created Texas Children's Research Institute provides tremendous opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration across discovery science and clinical studies. Our suburban West, Woodlands, and Austin hospital campuses offer exceptional opportunities for clinical collaboration and translational research activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Interested individuals must possess primary Board certification in Clinical Pathology (CP) by the American Board of Pathology or alternative clinical laboratory-based board certification for PhD faculty. MD candidates should be eligible for an active, unrestricted Texas medical license (MD preferred), and PhD candidates will also be considered.
