Job description

About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated Chemistry Analyst Intern to join our team, supporting the testing and analysis of nutraceutical, personal care and beauty products. In this role, you will assist in the analysis of raw materials, in-process, and finished products using techniques such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, titration, and other standard laboratory methods. You'll work closely with senior analysts and our quality control team to ensure product safety, potency, and compliance with industry standards.

This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in a regulated lab environment, ideal for students in chemistry or related fields who are looking to build practical lab skills and gain exposure to the quality assurance processes in the nutraceutical and related industries. Strong attention to detail, good documentation practices, creative problem solving skills, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.

What you'll do:
  • Perform routine analytical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished nutraceutical, personal care, and beauty products under supervision.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, pH meter, and moisture analyzers.
  • Prepare standard and sample solutions according to written procedures and test methods.
  • Assist in documenting results accurately following Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Support stability testing and shelf-life studies by preparing samples and recording data.
  • Help with essential laboratory housekeeping tasks, including inventory management, reagent labeling, and equipment calibration.
  • Complete and present a capstone project at the end of the internship, showcasing knowledge gained and skills developed. Interns will choose a project aimed at improving existing QC processes to help the company save time, reduce costs, enhance efficiency, or develop a new test method. Interns will select a meaningful initiative-such as optimizing outdated methods, updating documentation, or streamlining routine testing workflows-and present their findings and recommendations to the laboratory and BYU representatives at the end of the internship.
  • Apply analytical techniques to identify unknown or challenge samples using instruments such as HPLC, UV-Vis, and FTIR. This hands-on exercise will assess the intern's ability to interpret data, follow testing protocols, and draw conclusions based on chemical analysis.
What you'll need:
  • Previous lab experience: Prior experience in a laboratory environment, either from coursework or a previous internship, is preferred.
  • Technical aptitude: Ability to follow detailed laboratory procedures and operate standard lab equipment, such as pipettes, centrifuges, and balances.
  • Data handling: Proficiency in using software including Microsoft Excel for data entry and basic analysis.
  • Attention to detail: Excellent accuracy and precision in all aspects of lab work, from sample preparation to data recording.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively report findings and work collaboratively with the research team.
  • Problem-solving: A proactive and analytical approach to troubleshooting and addressing unexpected challenges.
  • Initiative: Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with general supervision, demonstrating enthusiasm for learning.
  • Adherence to lab safety protocols: Possesses a strong commitment to laboratory safety, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean workspace, handling equipment and chemicals according to standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and promptly reporting any spills, accidents, or unsafe conditions.
Bonus points for:
  • A cover letter outlining why they are interested in working in our lab.
  • Unofficial academic transcripts.
  • Contact information for 1-2 academic or professional references.
Our Benefits & Perks:

You will be part of an engaged, inclusive, global community that values family, giving back, beauty, and sustainability.
