Job description

  • Promote safe, cooperative and professional health care environment for optimum patient care, adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, rules/regulations, including but not limited to, absenteeism, ETIME, cell PHONE usage, dress code and rules of conduct.
  • Demonstrates standards of performance and behaviors consistent with DRIVE to Patient-Centered Excellence. Makes Customer Service a priority, treating customers (patients, visitors, and co-workers) in a professional manner exercising courtesy and tact.
  • Manages, plans, organizes and evaluates functions related to operations including, but not limited to; testing performed in chemistry laboratory, Laboratory Information System (LIS), Customer Service, Scheduling, safety, Inventory, budget tracking or related Tasks.
  • Follows standard precautions, laboratory safety/infection control protocols, use appropriate Personal Protective equipment (PPE), decontaminate bench surfaces and or other equipment and does proper documentation as and when required. Complies with all patient safety/privacy and HIPAA rules, maintains environment of care standards, work on laboratory goals to prioritize safety/care of patients & respond to inquiries from patients/physicians.
  • Assist in staff hires, training, and performance appraisals and ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
  • Active participation and involvement in performance improvement process of department/institution and interacts with regulatory and accreditation agencies; active participation in the process of conduction, follow-up, and reporting of external assessment for the purpose of accreditation, licensure, or certification and Is aware of safety issues and maintains environment of care standards.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates approved operations and procedures to achieve department/service line strategic goals.
  • Knowledgeable about contents of policies and procedures (including changes) relevant to scope of the laboratory testing activities.
  • Manages Site operations, monitors and compiles operating expenses and relationships with other departments and hospital, participates in System maintenance, validation/performance verification, upgrades, testing and ensures safe working environment.
  • Performs day-to-day supervision of test performance by testing personnel, monitors chemistry laboratory processes to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained, to include review of quality assurance practices, environmental monitors, instrument and equipment maintenance/function checks, quality control, calibration, and amended reports if any.
  • Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications and generates laboratory non-conformance report (LNR). In the event of non-conformances, ensures that results of test examinations are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
  • Verifies that staff are trained and competent prior to performing testing on patient specimens independently, and that testing personnel are evaluated semiannually during first year of hire, & thereafter annually being competent for assigned tasks and that remedial action is performed when staff do not perform as expected. Ensures that staff meet continuing education requirements.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in science (Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology) from an approved program. Must be certified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with at least one year in a laboratory supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in Chemistry and Hematology is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain a positive team environment
