Job description

Smithers Environmental Risk Sciences division is seeking applicants for two full-time Laboratory Assistants at our Wareham, MA location.

Provides foundational support to the Chemistry team.

Entry-level laboratory support role.

No degree or previous laboratory experience required.

Job Summary

Performs assigned routine laboratory tasks under close supervision, maintaining the physical organization and hygiene of study areas.ย 

Key Responsibilities

โ€ข Assist with routine laboratory maintenance tasks including cage/tank cleaning, equipment washing, and workspace preparation

โ€ข Support daily animal/organism care activities under direct supervision (feeding, watering, observation logging)

โ€ข Prepare and label materials, supplies, and consumables for active studies

โ€ข Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory areas in accordance with SOPs

โ€ข Assist senior staff with sample collection, preparation, and basic data entry

โ€ข Follow all health and safety protocols and GLP documentation practices as directed

โ€ข Report equipment malfunctions or unusual observations to supervising scientist

GLP Accountability

Works under close supervision of GLP-trained staff; is not assigned Study Director or Principal Investigator responsibilities. Must follow SOPs and document all assigned activities accurately per GLP record-keeping requirements.

Qualifications

โ€ข Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions

โ€ข Attention to detail and reliable task follow-through

โ€ข Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs

โ€ข Willingness to work with live organisms (fish, invertebrates, plants, soil fauna)

โ€ข Basic computer literacy (data entry)
