Job description

Veterinary Laboratory Technician
Compensation: $21 - $27 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
VERG Brooklyn is looking for an experienced Veterinary Laboratory Technician to join our team. You'll perform diagnostic testing, manage laboratory equipment, and deliver the accurate, timely results our medical teams rely on to make important treatment decisions.
If you're detail-oriented, enjoy hands-on laboratory work, and stay focused in a fast-paced environment, we'd love to hear from you.
Why You'll Love Working With Us
Your work has an immediate impact: Every sample tells part of a patient's story. The results you provide will help our veterinarians diagnose conditions, determine treatment plans, and respond quickly during emergency cases.
You'll be part of the medical team: Although much of your work takes place behind the scenes, your role is essential to patient care. You'll communicate directly with veterinarians and nursing teams throughout the hospital.
You can continue growing: Working in a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital will expose you to complex cases and a wide range of diagnostic testing. You'll have opportunities to strengthen your skills, share your knowledge, and keep learning.
About VERG Brooklyn
VERG Brooklyn is a leading 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital serving pets and their families throughout the tri-state area. Our specialists and emergency teams provide care across departments including Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Oncology.
Here, your laboratory skills will support patients who need everything from routine testing to urgent, lifesaving care.
Benefits That Support You
We appreciate the care and precision our employees bring to VERG Brooklyn every day. Our benefits package includes:
  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • FSA and HSA options, including company contributions
  • Interest-free health and veterinary payment account
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and floating holidays
  • Commuter benefits
  • Uniform allowance
  • Employee pet-care and veterinary service discounts
  • Additional employee benefits and perks

What You'll Do
As a Veterinary Laboratory Technician, you'll process samples and complete diagnostic testing accurately and efficiently. You'll help ensure urgent cases are prioritized and results are available when our medical teams need them.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology, and microbiology testing.
  • Preparing, processing, labeling, and storing samples.
  • Preparing and staining cytology slides and providing interpretation support.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment such as IDEXX and Abaxis analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
  • Entering results accurately and promptly into electronic medical records.
  • Monitoring quality control standards.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and testing issues.
  • Communicating with medical teams to prioritize urgent samples.
  • Keeping the laboratory clean, organized, and well stocked.
  • Helping train new team members when needed.

What You Bring
You have at least two years of experience in a veterinary or medical laboratory setting, including experience in a referral or specialty hospital. You're comfortable working with common laboratory techniques, veterinary analyzers, and diagnostic equipment.
You're someone who:
  • Takes pride in producing accurate, dependable results.
  • Notices the small details without losing sight of urgent priorities.
  • Stays organized while managing multiple tests and requests.
  • Communicates clearly and works well with others.
  • Remains calm and focused when the hospital gets busy.
  • Is willing to help, learn, and share knowledge with the team.

Because VERG Brooklyn cares for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, scheduling flexibility is important. This position may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Available schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
