Job description

Position Purpose

Under general supervision, the Lab Technician is responsible for performing analysis to support wine quality. Following standard operating procedures, this position utilizes wet-bench chemistry, analytical instrumentation and performs data entry.

Functional Responsibility
Essential Duties
  • Performs chemical analysis of grapes, juice, fermenters, and wine following standard operating procedures and protocols 
  • Operates laboratory instruments such as auto titrators, infrared analyzers, turbidimeter, density meter, Atomic Emission Spectroscopy, and other technical instruments
  • Performs data entry using various types of applications
  • Maintains Data Integrity and Impartiality 
  • Samples and analyzes wine/juice in barrels
  • Completes daily lab start-up and shut down following standard procedures and protocols
  • Prepares wine for bottling by making tank adjustments to meet specifications
  • Maintains ISO 9001 compliance within the lab 
  • Continuously audits analytical data 
  • May execute wine fining trials
  • Monitors inventory of lab supplies 
  • Maintains a strong customer service relationship with internal customers
  • Participates in blend evaluations, tasting panels and sensory projects as requested
  • Participates in method validation projects
  • Pulls samples from tanks as necessary

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, Biology, or other related science field
  • 6+ months previous analytical lab experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel  
  • Ability to prioritize work while adapting to changing priorities 
  • Brings a positive work environment 
  • Knowledge of good laboratory skills including sample and reagent preparation, sample handling, and good record keeping

Certificates and Licenses

  • Acceptable driving history with valid Driver's License
Working Conditions
  • Analytical lab in a temperature-controlled environment
  • May be required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment 
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Extended Hours
  • Shift Rotation
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Work at protected heights of 50'
  • Work in close quarters or confined spaces
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment

It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
