Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is looking for a Lab Assistant for the Transportation Technologies Programs!
Summary of Responsibilities
  • Students would be assigned to one of the following programs: Automotive, Collision Repair, or Diesel Mechanics.
  • Assistants will prepare instructional materials (mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary; instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in lab spaces.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Must be a current UVU student.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus six months experience working in a laboratory handling, maintaining, and repairing lab equipment and tools/materials used in lab settings.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Knowledge of ASE approved repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of the correct operation and safe use of the tools and equipment students use to complete their lab tasks.
  • Knowledge of the layout of the Transportation Technologies labs, where to find the correct supplies, information, tools, or equipment used to complete a designated task.
  • Knowledge of the UVU Transportation Technologies policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of shop safety practices.
  • Knowledge of transportation specific areas.
  • Ability to work under general direction and supervise students in laboratories and other areas as appropriate.
  • Ability to manage a group of students, keep them on task, and critique performance levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a wide variety of settings.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to explain detailed procedures to students.
  • Welding and cutting skills.
