Job description

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist performs a variety of laboratory tests and duties in accordance with the HRLMP policies and procedures. These include but are not exclusive to acting as a key resource for staff for morphology including slide review, monitoring the performance of Core Hematology, Core Coagulation and Core Chemistry testing, review of quality control, and troubleshooting and coordination of day to day operations of the Core Laboratory.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Operating and maintaining equipment including recognizing and troubleshooting failures, taking corrective action and ensuring proper documentation
Coordinating proficiency testing within the department
Participation in internal quality committees
Designing and coordinating implementation of new methodology/technology and necessary validation as per guidelines.
Acts as a key resource to technical staff, technical specialist, laboratory manager and medical staff on technical operation and theory of testing and results
Participates in critical review of key indicators, incidents, audits and inspections (internal and external)
Inventory management
Performs staff competency assessments
Participates in continuous improvement opportunities and problem solving initiatives
Lab leadership; teaching, training and mentoring colleagues
Monitoring workflow and reassigning staff as necessary to meet turnaround times

Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
Current (minimum 5 years) experience in Core Laboratory or Malignant Hematology
Extensive knowledge in Morphology 
Extensive knowledge in Core Laboratory practices including related Quality Control
Demonstrated evidence of leadership skills and issue management
Demonstrated excellence in communication, organizational and problem solving skills
Demonstrated evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster a team environment
Relevant Bachelor's degree (BSc, BTech) or ART in Hematology would be an asset
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications 
Demonstrated knowledge of the HRLMP Quality Management System and Accreditation Canada Diagnostics laboratory accreditation practices.
