ABOUT THE ROLE 
The senior laboratory technician's goal is to certify the final quality of Asphalt products and ensure the highest customer satisfaction. To help the lab supervisor in developing all asphalt binder grades used in our hot mix designs for all of Western Canada. The lab tech will be working in an AASHTO certified laboratory for performance graded asphalt binders.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Assist in testing of asphalt products to service our customers' needs (BBR, PAV, RTFO, DSR, pen and viscosity)
  • Responsible for testing and evaluating and preparing the above noted tests.
  • Maintain familiarity with MSDS specs and emergency responses.
  • Assist in AASHTO/AMRL round robin testing.
  • Maintain quality as per specification requirements.
  • Complete recommended routine maintenance and calibrations on the lab equipment
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining all equipment maintenance and calibration records
  • Identify and report workplace hazards and make positive suggestions for their elimination or control
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
     

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Completion of Chemical or Civil Technologist Diploma or equivalent
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years experience in asphalt binder testing laboratory. Experience working in a lab environment.
Required Training/Certifications: AASHTO Technician Certifications would be an asset
Required Technical Skills: Computer Proficiency: QC Software and MS Office applications
Additional Requirements:

  • Able to understand and work with QC lab equipment
  • Working knowledge of Asphalt Binder Testing according to AASHTO M320
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, which may include night shifts and overtime
  • Attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude and is a self starter
  • Ability to motivate and influence others, as well as following direction
  • Able to multi-task effectively and work in fast pace environment while being flexible
  • High level of time management and prioritization skills
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
