This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.
IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Rock Island, IL to support engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. Over 10-12 weeks, you will assist with real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants in a paid, mentored internship.
You will help support project work within budget, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to project goals and client expectations. The team you would join works heavily in education and campus settings, with additional experience in healthcare, civic lighting, aviation, and facility assessments, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
• Assist with mechanical-system design work for vertical building projects according to code and IMEG standards
• Research commercially available equipment to support project design
• Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files
• Coordinate design and schedule activities with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier teams
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
• Help prepare and issue addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement
What You'll Bring
Required Education
• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
Required Skills/Abilities
• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

State of Illinois Pay Range: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
