Job description

We are seeking a highly organized, efficient and multi-functional lab assistant with excellent communication skills. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment, is required. The candidate must possess skills in following policies and procedures, commitment to tasks and attention to detail, decision-making and problem-solving.

The purpose of this position is to assist laboratory staff in routine and non-routine activities pertaining to laboratory specimen preparation and reporting of results. Work will be highly self-directed and the person in this position may have responsibilities such as client/patient communications and problem-solving related to compliance and specimen integrity. Some of the job responsibilities are as follows: responsible for processing specimens from both inpatient and outpatient areas and delivery to the designated core laboratory areas; responsible for sending and tracking referred specimens using site batches, worksheets and outstanding specimen reports; responsible for the proper use of LIS order entry, specimen receipt, report lookup, report printing, and other computer functions.
All employees are required to attend hospital orientation on the initial start date and then will proceed to the laboratory to undergo an extensive training program which covers all areas of the lab assistant position. We provide a one-on-one approach to this process which typically is completed within the first one to two months of hire. Annual continuing education is provided by Willis-Knighton in an effort to maintain competency in lab assistant skills, safety and general laboratory areas. This also provides the employee CEU's to maintain certification requirements.
A high school Diploma or equivalent is required. Computer experience and some knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
