Job Overview:

We are seeking a Part Time Evening Lab Specimen Processor for the Monmouth Medical Center located in Long Branch, NJ.  The Lab Specimen Processor supports general laboratory operations by managing the receipt, accessioning, processing, and distribution of specimens across multiple laboratory disciplines. This role ensures efficient pre-analytical workflows by accurately preparing samples for testing and maintaining rigorous tracking within laboratory information systems.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field, current enrollment in a relevant program, or equivalent practical experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Basic knowledge of specimen handling and processing procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control practices.
  • Effective organizational and workflow coordination skills.

Preferred:

  • 0–2 years’ experience is preferred in laboratory support, specimen processing, inventory management or accessioning roles.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Part Time (20 hours per week, 2-3 days per week).
  • Must be able to work evening shift: 4pm – 1230am.
  • Rotating weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives, verifies, and labels specimens according to established protocols.
  • Performs specimen accessioning and enters data into laboratory information systems.
  • Prepares specimens for testing, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of specimens to maintain integrity.
  • Transports specimens within the laboratory or to designated testing areas.
  • Identifies and escalates specimen discrepancies or issues.
  • Adheres to RWJBH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
