What you will be doing:

  • Preparation of thin sections and SEM epoxy-stubs for petrographic analysis
  • Review and quality control of thin section and polished sample preparation
  • Act as a bridge between the preparation lab and the analytical lab
  • Perform petrographic analysis of geologic samples using reflected and transmitted light microscopes
  • Petrographic analysis of geotechnical samples such as concrete and aggregates
  • Conduct point counting and capture photomicrographs
  • Operate SEM for imaging and EDS-based mineral/chemical analysis
  • Interpret and integrate microscope and SEM data
  • Prepare technical reports with images, maps, and quantitative results
  • Monitor instrument performance and help coordinate maintenance/troubleshooting
  • Follow lab health & safety protocols and quality system guidelines

What you bring to the table:
  • BSc. Degree in Geology
  • Experience with petrographic microscopy, SEM, and thin section preparation equipment 
  • Familiarity with common geotechnical methods and guidelines such as ASTM C856-14, D4992-22, CSA A23.2-15A, etc.
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail with good organizational skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, image processing software, mineral modeling software)
  • Team player with the ability to work in a positive manner in a fast-paced environment
