Job description

Stream Ecology Lab Assistant

Position Title - Stream Ecology Lab Assistant

Student Status - Work Study Optional – You are not required to be a Federal Work Study Recipient to hold this position.

Work Location - Springfield Campus

Department - Biology

Hiring Range - 16.00

Sponsorship Information - Applicants must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the United States on a full-time basis. This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.

Department/Employer Operating Hours - Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

How many hours per week are required? - 8-15 hours/week

Description of Primary Duties - Assisting with field data collection in wadable streams, including work required on some weekends. Cleaning and sorting aquatic invertebrate samples in the laboratory, with some identification at coarse taxonomic levels (possibility to learn more about identification if interested). Cleaning and organizing field and laboratory equipment. Potential to continue working in the lab in spring 2027 and beyond.

Required Qualifications - Interest in the process of scientific research is a must. Ability to focus, with strong attention to detail. Reliability. Sense of humor. Physical fitness to be prepared for a few labor-intensive field days. Willingness to work as an integral part of a research team. Some proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint. A work/study award is not required for this position, but please let us know in the cover letter if you have one you'd like to use.
