LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY:
The Lab Technician provides essential support to ensure the smooth operation of a clinical or medical laboratory. This role involves assisting with sample handling, managing lab supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting lab personnel. The Lab Technician ensures that the laboratory environment is organized and operates efficiently. This is a dayshift position and is Tuesday to Saturday.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associates degree preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and maintain a high level of cleanliness in the laboratory.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Adherence to Policies and Ethics:
  • Uphold strict adherence to laboratory policies and procedures, including patient and data confidentiality.
  • Represent the laboratory with professionalism and ethical conduct at all times.
Data Management:
  • Ensure proper data recording and documentation.
Lab Maintenance and Organization:
  • Maintain daily cleanliness and sterilization of the work area.
  • Dispose of waste and samples as per lab protocols.
  • Assist with supply and equipment inventory management and ordering.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently.
  1. Laboratory Operations:

• Perform Moderate level sample testing under Lab scientist guidance.
• Perform daily startup procedures on laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Conduct routine maintenance.
• Perform laboratory testing following standardized test procedures.
• Check supply order log book to ensure supplies are received timely.

• Prepare molecular reagents for testing.
• Assist in day to day lab operations by preparing Heme specimen for processing and loading.
• Assist in day to day lab operations for Chemistry Processing, loading and unloading.

• Assist in day to day lab operations for Process TB sample.
• Assist in day to day lab operations for COAG specimen loading.
• Assist in day to day lab operations for Urinanalysis.
• Perform Waived Kit testing.
• Perform Molecular PCR Extraction.
• Assist in day to day operation for toxicology sample prep and processing.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with other lab personnel to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Report all activities and issues to the Lab Manager or Shift Lead.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with colleagues.
Compliance and Training:
  • Dispose of samples only after obtaining approval from the Lab Manager or Shift Lead.
  • Complete all assigned tasks and assist in training new lab personnel.
  • Participate in regulatory compliance and accreditation processes, if applicable.
Technical Expertise:
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem-solving for moderate technical issues with Analyzers and testing.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and workflows.
  • Assist Lab Scientist in operation of laboratory technologies and equipment
  • Interpret and resolve unusual or unexpected test workflow with Lab Scientist/Lab Manager.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on all the instruments.
  • Complete Monthly Checklist Analytical. Check for adequate supplies and expiration dates.
  • Check all temperature logs.
  • Check all maintenance logs for completeness.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to pass standardized color vision test.
• Ability to lift to 30lbs.
• Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
• Ability to wear laboratory personal protective equipment (PPE) 3-6 hours out of the day.
ENVIRONMENT:
• Generally performed in a laboratory setting.
• Frequently exposed to laboratory samples, including but not limited to blood, urine and other bodily fluids.
