Job description

As a Driver Manager reporting to an Area Manager, you will lead and oversee a group of drivers and/or independent contractors within an operational region. This key leadership role is responsible for managing daily driver fleet operations, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and retention metrics are met. You will foster positive employee relationships and conduct performance reviews, implementing corrective action plans when necessary to maintain high standards aligned with company values.

Responsibilities

  • Manage driver performance through clear expectations and regular reviews
  • Ensure driver safety and compliance with FMCSA regulations and company policies
  • Collaborate with Safety Coordinators to maintain driver compliance for licensing, drug testing, and hours of service
  • Resolve issues and conflicts involving assigned drivers promptly
  • Drive driver retention through engagement and workforce development efforts
  • Train and mentor drivers on effective use of tools and systems such as Pedigree and Magnus Driver App
  • Optimize driver utilization and productivity in partnership with load planners
  • Monitor deliveries and pickups to proactively address service failures and communicate risks
  • Uphold company policies and United Road Core Values to support a high-performance culture
  • Provide leadership that promotes trust, teamwork, and employee contribution

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in driver management
  • Proven ability to manage driver performance effectively
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FMCSA regulations and safety compliance
  • Strong skills in employee relations, training, and mentoring
  • Adept at problem resolution and handling complex workforce issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and related office software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work collaboratively within teams and independently
