JOB SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Associate III performs moderate and high complexity testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager. This position performs routine patient testing, quality control testing, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, critical value notification, proactively identifies sample integrity issues, and supports overall quality laboratory testing.  Additionally, this role ensures quality control testing/results are within specifications and reviewed, supports team competency requirements, performs scheduling and timekeeping, maintains/supports regulatory guidelines to support accreditation, supply management, and outpatient experience.

This role is outside normal career ladder progression and is a hired and posted position.

Laboratory Associate III Duties:  Performs duties above and beyond Laboratory Associate II.

  • Actively participate in continuous performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in safety rounding and reporting within the clinical laboratories.
  • In ambulatory setting, responsible for surveys, inventory management, quality control, troubleshooting, training, competency, new testing validations and implementations.
  • Orient and train Laboratory Assistant Is and IIs, and other testing team members as assigned.
  • Supports inventory management activities.
  • Supports scheduling and timekeeping activities.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Patient Care: Shows a commitment to provide the highest level of patient care.

  • Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for testing.
  • Maintains required documentation for all lab procedures.
  • Processes requisitions for testing.
  • Prepares and distributes reports.

Safety: Adheres to all workplace and trade safety laws, regulations, standards, and practices.

  • Performs quality control testing to assure accuracy of patient testing.
  • Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Practices safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Performs all duties to satisfy regulations in preparation for inspections.

Teamwork: Cooperates within a team to achieve goals and deliverables.

  • Provides information and consultation to requestors.
  • Recognizes interdependencies with other areas and supports other staff as needed.
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings.

Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job.

  • Performs competency and proficiency testing to assure maintenance of skills.
  • Completes educational activities to continually improve skills and assists consultants.
  • Participates in improvement of methods and processes.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master's or Doctorate Degree from an accredited University in Chemistry, Physics, or Biology related sciences required. Must include: Six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of any combination of chemical or biological sciences.

4 Year/Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University in Chemistry, Physics, or Biology related sciences required. Must include:  Six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of any combination of chemical or biological sciences.

The job requires constant sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. occasionally. For any weight over 35 lbs. use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is  $25.25  - $42.64 hourly.

Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.  Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
