Job Summary
Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data. Designs and conducts research including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, and developing recommendations based on research findings. Prepares reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.
Department Overview
The UC Human Factors & Ergonomics Program is a joint program of the Division of Occupational, Environmental and Climate Medicine in the Department of Medicine at UC San Francisco and the Division of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley.
The lab's primary location is the Richmond Field Station in the East Bay. We are part of the Northern California Center of Occupational and Environmental Health and have a team of approximately 20 students and staff at any given time. Our program prepares students from engineering, public health, and medicine in human factors and ergonomics, with a focus on understanding the relationship between biomechanical exposures and injuries and on reducing injuries through prevention-through-design strategies.
Responsibilities
Statistical Research
Conducts statistical studies in support of research proposals and protocols.
Research Data Systems
Maintains and develops research gathering, retrieval and reporting systems.
Study Planning and Design
Plans studies, including the design of survey instruments and determining the sampling and reporting procedures.
Research Study Implementation
Collaborates on the design, documentation, testing and implementation of research studies.
Reporting and Analysis
Prepares reports and / or analyses for internal department constituents.
Data Reporting Products
May be involved in researching, evaluating and selecting new data reporting products.
Data Organization and Trend Analysis
Assists in developing systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report trends.
Research Data Analysis
Gathers and analyzes research data; prepares and summarizes information and / or recommendations.
Independent Study Planning
Independently plans limited studies or assists higher level Analysts in large, complex studies.
Other Duties
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and one or more years or relevant experience and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.
  • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.
  • Working skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.
  • Working skills in the appropriate use of technology and relevant software and scientific equipment as required (i.e., python).
  • Demonstrated experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and vulnerable populations.
  • Experience using SmartSheets or other project management software.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Experience working in Epic (or similar EHR system).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related area.
