Salary Range: $25.74 - $29.64

As a key member of our Diagnostic Imaging team, the Diagnostic Imaging Assistant provides care for patients and supports patient flow within the Diagnostic Imaging department as required. The Diagnostic Imaging Assistant communicates effectively with patients, staff and families, and provides excellent customer service at all times

Technologist Assistant

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist Technologists in positioning, transferring and lifting of patients as part of Imaging procedures
  • Assist in data entry and documentation of patient/procedural information into applicable information systems
  • Assist in confirming patient preparations and patient conditions prior to scheduling of inpatients, emergency department patients and outpatients
  • Monitors inventory of supplies and advice appropriate Charge/Senior technologist if ordering and stocking are required
  • Review orders and supporting documents with the assistance of the technologist
  • Assist in facilitating blood work
  • Take blood samples and tissue specimens to lab for processing
  • Take Ultrasound probes to MDRD
  • Take CT contrast to Emergency and Inpatient units
  • Assist in ensuring MRI, X-Ray safety
  • Assist in verifying patient preparations
  • Collaborate and communicate with the health care teams in assisting in technologists in the provision of patient care
  • Operate imaging equipment including but not limited to patient lifts, imaging tables, wheel chairs
  • Assist in the daily workflow of multiple DI modalities including but not limited to Ultrasound, CT, X-ray and MRI

Qualifications:

  • Student currently enrolled in a CMRITO accredited Medical Radiation Technology program which includes General Radiography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Cardiac Sonography and Radiation Therapy
  • Canadian or Internationally trained Medical Radiation Technologist or Internationally trained physician with 1-year experience in a clinical setting
  • Proficient computer experience and excellent keyboarding skills is preferred
  • Previous experience with Meditech system is an asset
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • Current experience in a hospital environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of routine practices related to Infection Control required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities while demonstrating excellent customer service skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ongoing commitment to continuous learning is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
