To be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.
This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Laboratory Assistant to be considered for permanent appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School or possession of an equivalency diploma and two years of full time paid experience working in a particular kind of scientific or technical laboratory or performing skilled services in the particular technical occupation or trade associated with the specific title: or graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree in the scientific or technical field indicated in the title; or an equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above.
Will need to possess or obtain an EPA 608 Certification within 6 months of employment.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Laboratory Assistant performs work under direct supervision of the Department Chair of Applied Technologies and/or his/her designee with latitude allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the assignments in accordance with defined procedures. The Laboratory Assistant reports to the Department Chair of Applied Technologies and performs the following duties:
• Constructs, assembles, and maintains HRS (HVAC) laboratory equipment.
• Orders, maintains, and controls inventory of laboratory supplies to include refrigerants, equipment, supplies, and tools.
• Issues lab equipment and supplies to students and assists in student services performed by the Applied Technologies Department.
• Maintains the cleanliness of laboratories, storage areas, and equipment.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of related records and reports to include the Applied Technologies Department's inventory of equipment and furnishings.
• Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to laboratory equipment.
• Performs related tasks as required.
• Works with Lab Assistant colleagues in the Applied Technologies Department to ensure all programs are supplied and maintained.
This is a 40-hour 12-month position with an hourly rate of $25.90.
