As an Uncertified Laboratory Assistant - Student Traineeyou will be responsible for the pre and post analytical processing of laboratory specimens and/or entering requisitions accurately and in a timely manner while ensuring quality control checks and standards are run as required. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone's life.
Status: Casual
Hours of Work: Mon- Fri, hours vary based on operation need
Location: Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton

How YOU will make a difference:
  • Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
  • Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
  • Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare's mission and values
  • Sort and steer specimens and perform ECG's
  • Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
  • Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators
What YOU bring to the role:
  • Excellent data entry skills required (minimum 40 words per minute)
  • Registered with Thompson Rivers University MLA Certificate Program
  • Completion of Medical Terminology course
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of Omnitech Data Entry system/LIS
Working Conditions

  • Required walking with repetitive motions
  • May sit or stand for prolonged period of time with extensive computer use
  • Required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds as required
  • Exposed to bio-hazardous substances, temperature differences and noise variances
  • At times might require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.
Pay rate: $21.00 per hour.
The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
