Job description

Position Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs laboratory non-technical tasks to assist laboratory workflow. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
  1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  2. Monitors pending lists and assists with Add on testing.
  3. Manages specimens to be given to technical staff for pending tests.
  4. Processes send out testing to be placed on a packing list to a referral laboratory
  5. Monitors inventory as required for par levels and storage
  6. Answers phones and places phone calls are requested.
  7. Removes and discards specimens that are no longer needed.
  8. Investigate location and status of specimens in the LIS
  9. Place specimens in centrifuge and on automated track systems.
  10. Records temperature, humidity, and other maintenance logs as needed.
  11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School graduate or GED
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Previous laboratory experience or previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

    • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
