Responsibilities:

Receive, sort, and process patient specimens promptly and accurately.

Perform routine instrument maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Prepare specimens at workstations, including building worklists, aliquoting samples, checking for clotting or fibrin, and inoculating slides.

Prepare reagents and media necessary for testing procedures.

Conduct specimen centrifugation, specimen storage, and retrieval following proper protocols.

Assist with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) duties and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Maintain laboratory records, files, and documentation accurately.

Change gas cylinders and decontaminate work areas regularly.

Perform weekly radioactive surface wipe tests and record results.

Use laboratory information systems (LIS) and PCs for data entry and record keeping.

Dispose of biohazardous materials following all safety guidelines and PPE requirements.

Address pending sample lists and assist in locating missing specimens.

Follow all safety procedures, including PPE protocols and waste disposal regulations.

Complete relevant training and competency assessments to stay current with laboratory practices.

Required Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent; training or background in medical assisting, clinical medical assisting, or laboratory support is beneficial.
