Specimen Processor I

Available Shift

Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm

NMS Labs is the nation's leading independent provider of professional laboratory testing services, specializing in clinical toxicology, forensic science, and other vitally important areas of esoteric testing and expert services. We employ more than 350 highly trained professionals who work closely with leading healthcare providers, medical researchers, and various members of the criminal and civil justice system to provide integrated testing and consultative services.

Our headquarters located in Horsham, PA, currently has multiple openings for Specimen Processors in our Specimen Processing department. We have multiple regular full-time positions available. Because our laboratory is open 24/7/365, holiday rotations may be required as needed. Summary

Receives, unpacks, completes chain of custody and related documentation, accessions into LIMS, returns samples, monitors department reports and performs support activities in the department.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • MS Office and typing/data entry skills with a high level of accuracy


Job Duties

It is the responsibility of the Specimen Processor to unpack specimens shipped to NMS, complete chain of custody and related documentation, log samples into our laboratory information management system, and perform support activities for the department. Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Receiving and Opening packages
  • Transporting samples to the lab
  • Inventory storage
  • Create specimen homogenates
  • Monitor backlog report, retrieve, prepare and document samples for outsourced testing.
  • Create blank tissues for Lab
  • Maintain chain of custody documentation
  • Accession clinical samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Second reviews (clinical)
  • Package samples for return to client

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate computer keyboard, objects, or controls
  • Requires walking from one work location to another throughout the shift
  • Sitting and standing for up to extended periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying objects up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to travel as needed for court testimony.
  • Specific vision abilities (with correction) include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment
  • Exposure to fumes, noxious odors and dust
  • Handling of biological material and blood-borne pathogens
  • Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals
