The Part-Time Biology Lab Assistant, under the direction of the Biology Lab Manager, supports the biology laboratory operations by assisting with laboratory preparation, cleanup, organization, and inventory to ensure laboratories are ready for instructional use

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Clean, sanitize, and properly store laboratory glassware, equipment, and supplies following established procedures
  • Assist with preparation of laboratory materials, equipment, and solutions for instructional laboratories
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and inventory of supplies
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and departmental guidelines
  • Accurately record, review, and submit hours worked through the College's electronic timekeeping system in accordance with established deadlines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and reliability
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment and comply with laboratory safety procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree or credential in biology, another natural science, or a related health profession
  • Completion of one or more college laboratory science courses

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Typical office 
  • Business Hours 
  • M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 
    • summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm 
  • Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll) 
  • Occasional travel (less than 10%) 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and move lab supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to safely work with common laboratory chemicals and cleaning agents while using appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Manual dexterity to safely handle laboratory equipment and materials
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in classroom, laboratory, and office settings

Salary Range: $11.00 - $17.50
