What is a lab animal attendant?

Lab Animal Attendants are professionals responsible for the care and well-being of animals used in research, teaching, or testing in laboratory settings. They may also assist researchers by observing animal behavior and reporting unusual symptoms or conditions. To thrive as a Lab Animal Attendant, you need knowledge of animal husbandry, basic animal care, and familiarity with laboratory protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Experience with animal handling, sanitation equipment, and data recording systems such as electronic logs is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility are vital soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure the well-being of research animals, maintain accurate records, and support the integrity of scientific studies.
