Job description

Job Description: AVP Trade Marketing (LDB)
Job Title: AVP, Trade Marketing
Division: L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty (LDB)
Reports To: VP, Commercial Strategy
Location: Hudson Yards, NY
Who We Are
The Trade Marketing team at L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty (LDB) operates as the critical commercial engine and strategic bridge between our world-class brands-CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, and Vichy-and our retail partners. We do not simply execute plans; we are the architects of the commercial strategy. We translate high-level national brand visions into concrete, localized, and winning trade architectures that dictate how our portfolio dominates at the shelf and on the screen.
We are looking for a powerhouse leader to step into the role of AVP, Trade Marketing. This is not a role for those who seek the path of least resistance. It is a high-visibility, high-stakes position that requires an individual with exceptional grit, an unshakeable work ethic, and a commanding professional presence. You will lead the charge in bridging marketing ambition with commercial reality, serving as a highly reliable, deeply trusted partner to both internal teams and retail giants.
The Opportunity & Your Impact
As the AVP of Trade Marketing, you will lead a high-performing team tasked with translating each brand's national strategy and defining the overarching commercial strategy for the division. You will be the ultimate owner of how CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, and Vichy show up commercially, establishing the promotional guardrails, trade spending efficiency parameters, and go-to-market execution plans.
This role demands a leader who is not afraid to go toe-to-toe with General Managers, Brand Presidents, and Marketing heads. You will be the voice of commercial reality, backed by bulletproof, data-driven analytics. When tough conversations are needed regarding how national strategies must adapt to the retail landscape, or when commercial parameters must be strictly defined, you will lean in with confidence, facts, and a solution-oriented attitude.
What We're Looking For: Our Future Leader
We are searching for a relentless driver who brings a masterclass balance of strategic marketing translation, commercial street-smarts, and analytic rigor. You are someone who:
  • Is a Strategic Translator: You can look at a national brand marketing plan and immediately identify how to operationalize it into a commercial strategy that retailers buy into.
  • Possesses Deep Grit: You roll up your sleeves, thrive in fast-paced complexity, and view obstacles as puzzles to be solved. You are resilient, reliable, and run toward challenges, not away from them.
  • Commands the Room: You have a strong, authentic leadership style and an executive presence that immediately builds trust.
  • Engages in Constructive Friction: You are comfortable speaking truth to power. You are fearless in challenging GMs, Sales leaders, and Marketers to ensure our trade strategies are both commercially sound and highly profitable.
  • Is Rooted in Data: Your opinions are strong, but they are always backed by objective, meticulous analytics. You are a trusted source of truth because you let the data do the heavy lifting.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Define LDB Commercial Strategy: Serve as the chief architect in translating brand-specific national strategies into a unified, high-performing divisional commercial strategy across all key retail channels.
  • Translate National Brand Ambition: Act as the strategic conduit between Brand Marketing and Sales. Take national campaigns and product launches and translate them into commercially viable retail programs for CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, and Vichy.
  • Commercial Guardrail Ownership: Establish and enforce rigorous divisional trade guidelines. Collaborate cross-functionally (Divisional Leadership, Sales, Marketing, and Finance) to align brand ambitions with commercial realities and strict ROI parameters.
  • Fearless Stakeholder Management: Act as the strategic partner and challenger to GMs and Brand Teams. Drive the tough, necessary alignments on promotional ROI, pricing executions, and commercial trade spend when national strategies clash with field realities.
  • Bulletproof Analytical Storytelling: Translate complex retailer, consumer, and financial data into clear, persuasive strategic narratives. Deliver high-impact presentations to executive leadership.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Building: Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing Trade Marketing team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous development.
  • P&L and ROI Optimization: Maintain a deep, precise understanding of the divisional P&L. Rigorously analyze promotional ROI and trade spend efficiency to identify and capture profit-improvement opportunities.
  • Retailer & Field Collaboration: Workhand-in-hand with Field Sales and Customer Marketing to ensure our defined commercial plans are flawlessly executed, highly competitive, and customized to win across the retailer landscape.

Background & Experience Requirements
Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Commercial Strategy, Marketing, Commercial Finance, Data Analytics, Economics, or a related business field. MBA is a plus.

Professional Experience & Technical Skills:
  • 10-15+ years of experience working in a fast-paced FMCG or CPG organization, with a strong preference for deep exposure to Trade Marketing, Commercial Strategy, or Category Management.
  • Strategic Translation Track Record: Proven experience taking high-level brand ideas/national strategies and successfully mapping them into commercial, retailer-facing programs.
  • Proven Leadership:A track record of leading teams and directly influencing senior, multi-functional leadership. This will lead a team of 10+.
  • Commercial Acumen: A deep understanding of the US retailer landscape, trade spend mechanics, and how brand marketing strategies translate to the retail shelf.
  • Financial Literacy: Strong command of product financial structures and P&L dynamics; capability to evaluate the financial health of trade investments.
  • Analytical Rigor: Hands-on experience working with large, complex datasets to derive actionable insights. Familiarity with syndicated data sources (Circana/IRI, Numerator, Nielsen) and trade promotion management tools.

  • Technical Proficiency: High comfort level with data visualization and analytics tools (Advanced Excel, Power BI, Tableau) to build data-backed arguments.

Salary range: $147K-$213K
