Job description

Job Title: Receiving Associate
Department: Logistics / Warehouse
Reports To: Shipping, Receiving, & Inventory Manager
Status: Full-Time, Hourly
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, safety-conscious Receiving Associate to join our production team. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for all incoming materials vital to our steel modular manufacturing process-ranging from heavy structural steel beams and flat stock to paint, welding supplies, and hardware. You will be responsible for unloading deliveries, verifying shipment accuracy against purchase orders in our ERP, inspecting for damage, and ensuring materials are safely staged.
Key Responsibilities 1. Material Offloading & Handling
  • Safely unload incoming shipments from flatbeds, freight trucks, and containers using forklifts, overhead cranes, or pallet jacks.
  • Handle heavy, bulky, and high-value steel components and construction materials with strict adherence to safety protocols.
2. Inspection & Verification
  • Verify incoming materials against packing slips, bills of lading, and internal purchase orders to ensure accuracy (e.g., correct quantities, dimensions, and material grades).
  • Conduct visual quality inspections for transport damage, rust, or defects, and immediately report discrepancies to Procurement and Quality Assurance.
3. Inventory Control & Data Entry
  • Utilize our Inventory Management System / ERP to scan, log, and update stock levels accurately upon receipt.
  • Label, tag, or color-code received materials (such as steel beams, fasteners, and paint) according to company standards.
  • Assist in periodic cycle counts and physical inventory audits.
4. Put-Away & Production Support
  • Transport verified materials to designated storage bays, racking systems, or directly to the modular assembly line to prevent production bottlenecks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free receiving dock and yard in accordance with 5S lean manufacturing principles.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a receiving, warehousing, or logistics role, preferably within a heavy manufacturing, steel fabrication, or modular construction environment.
  • Equipment Certification: Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift. (Overhead crane or heavy-capacity forklift experience is a major plus).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, stand for long periods, and work in an industrial environment that may be subject to temperature variations.
  • Tech Literacy: Familiarity with warehouse management software (WMS), ERP systems (like SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite), and handheld barcode scanners.
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of steel shapes, grades (e.g., A36, A992), and standard hardware used in structural fabrication.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Competencies for Success
  • Safety First Mindset: Rigorous commitment to OSHA standards, PPE compliance, and safe lifting/rigging practices.
  • Attention to Detail: A sharp eye to catch minor discrepancies in part numbers or quantities before materials hit the production floor.
  • Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with truck drivers, procurement teams, and supervisors.
Work Environment & Benefits
  • Environment: This position operates in a loud industrial manufacturing facility and outdoor storage yard. Steel-toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses, and high-visibility vests are required at all times.

Benefits: Health/Dental/Vision, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement
