Knowledge Graph Architect information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Knowledge Graph Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Knowledge Graph Architect, you need expertise in data modeling, semantic technologies, graph databases, and a strong background in computer science or information systems. Familiarity with tools like RDF, SPARQL, OWL, Neo4j, and experience with data integration platforms or cloud-based data services is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential to translate complex data needs into scalable knowledge graph solutions. These competencies enable effective design, implementation, and maintenance of knowledge graphs, which are critical for deriving actionable insights from complex data landscapes.

What are some typical challenges Knowledge Graph Architects face when integrating data from diverse sources?

Knowledge Graph Architects often encounter challenges related to data heterogeneity, including varying data formats, inconsistent naming conventions, and differing semantics across multiple systems. Successfully integrating these disparate data sources requires designing robust ontologies, mapping relationships, and resolving conflicts to ensure data consistency and usability. Collaboration with domain experts, data engineers, and business stakeholders is essential to align technical solutions with business needs, making strong communication skills and adaptability crucial in this role.

What are Knowledge Graph Architects?

Knowledge Graph Architects are professionals who design, develop, and maintain knowledge graphs—data structures that organize information into interconnected entities and relationships. They combine expertise in data modeling, semantic technologies, and ontologies to enable advanced data integration, search, and analytics within organizations. Their work helps businesses extract meaningful insights from complex datasets by structuring information in ways that are both machine-readable and semantically rich.

Job description

Responsibilities
Peraton Labs is seeking a knowledge graph engineer to extend and maintain the knowledge graph that underpins a generative AI-powered analytical platform. This role models entities and their relationships, enabling cross-portfolio queries, entity linking, and relationship-based analytics that connect elements into a navigable knowledge structure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement ontologies for various entities
  • Extend the knowledge graph with entity types and relationship models
  • Build entity extraction and linking pipelines that populate the knowledge graph from both structured and unstructured sources
  • Enable cross-portfolio queries
  • Develop SPARQL query templates and APIs for common analytical patterns
  • Implement knowledge graph quality assurance: consistency checks, completeness monitoring, and conflict resolution
  • Design the knowledge graph update pipeline for incremental data ingestion
  • Collaborate with NLP Engineers on entity resolution and with Data Fusion Engineers on relationship validation

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 6+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience with knowledge representation, ontology engineering, or graph databases
  • Proficiency with RDF, OWL, SPARQL, and semantic web technologies
  • Experience with graph databases (Oxigraph, Blazegraph, Neo4j, or similar)
  • Strong Python proficiency; experience with RDF libraries (rdflib, or similar)
  • Understanding of ontology design patterns and best practices
  • Experience with entity resolution and knowledge base population
  • Familiarity with linked data principles and standards
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with defense or government ontologies (DoD Architecture Framework, NIEM)
  • Experience with knowledge graph embedding and graph neural networks
  • Knowledge of provenance tracking and data lineage in knowledge graphs
