Job description

Assistant Technical Designer โ€“ Women's & Men's Sportswear & Activewear

About the Role

We're looking for a detail-driven Assistant Technical Designer to join our growing team and help bring high-performance sportswear and activewear to life. In this role, you'll work side-by-side with our Senior Technical Designer, partnering across design, production, and overseas factories to ensure every garment fits beautifully, performs flawlessly, and meets the highest construction standards. If you love the precision of a perfect fit, the energy of a fast-paced fitting room, and the satisfaction of seeing your work on the sales floor, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with the Senior Technical Designer on the full development lifecycle, from first prototype through production
  • Lead and participate in daily fit sessions using Alvanon and other industry-standard dress forms, collaborating with design, production, and merchandising teams to refine fit, proportion, and construction
  • Serve as a point of contact with overseas factories, communicating fit corrections, construction details, and specification updates with clarity and precision
  • Evaluate fit on private label programs and deliver thoughtful, well-documented feedback to customer tech design teams
  • Collaborate with design to build and refine spec packages for new and existing styles
  • Track Fit, PP, and TOP samples through every stage, keeping development on schedule and flagging issues early
  • Contribute to a culture of craftsmanship, continuous improvement, and creative problem-solving

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3 years of technical design experience, ideally in sportswear, activewear, or performance apparel
  • Strong working knowledge of pattern making, garment construction, grading, and specing
  • A sharp eye for fit, proportion, and detail, paired with the ability to communicate technical feedback clearly and constructively
  • Confidence working with Alvanon forms and translating fit observations into actionable factory comments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and the broader Office suite; experience with PLM systems a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when partnering with global factory teams
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset and the kind of organizational skills that keep multiple styles, samples, and deadlines moving forward at once

Why Join Us

At Castlewood Apparel Corp, we design and develop sportswear and activewear for some of the most recognizable names in the industry, partnering with major retailers and private label customers across the country. As a member of our technical design team, you'll get hands-on exposure to a diverse portfolio of programs, real ownership over the styles you touch, and direct access to senior leadership and decision-makers - the kind of learning curve that's hard to find at larger, more siloed companies.

We're a tight-knit, collaborative team that values craftsmanship, accountability, and people who genuinely care about the product. We offer competitive compensation, an annual year-end bonus, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and a centrally located NYC office with remote work on Fridays.

Salary range: $65,000 to $70,000 annually
