Kitchen Manager In Training information

What is a kitchen manager in training?

A Kitchen Manager In Training is an individual who is learning the responsibilities and skills required to manage a kitchen, typically in a restaurant or food service environment. This role involves working under the supervision of experienced kitchen managers to gain hands-on experience in food preparation, staff supervision, inventory management, and maintaining health and safety standards. The goal is to prepare the trainee to take on a full Kitchen Manager position upon successful completion of the training program.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a kitchen manager in training?

To thrive as a Kitchen Manager In Training, you need a solid understanding of food safety, culinary techniques, and basic management principles, often supported by experience in food service or a relevant certification like ServSafe. Familiarity with kitchen equipment, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and inventory management tools is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you effectively manage staff and ensure smooth kitchen operations. These competencies are crucial for maintaining food quality, safety standards, and team productivity in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

What are some common challenges faced by kitchen managers in training, and how can they be overcome?

Kitchen Managers In Training often face challenges such as learning to balance administrative duties with hands-on kitchen work, adapting to fast-paced environments, and effectively managing a diverse team. It's important to develop strong time management and communication skills, and to seek feedback from experienced staff and supervisors. Building a solid understanding of inventory systems, food safety protocols, and scheduling will help smooth the transition into a full Kitchen Manager role.

Manager in Training (Leadership Development Program)

Chick-fil-A North Valley (Deer Valley & Norterra | Phoenix, AZ)

The Opportunity

Launch your leadership career with purpose.

The Manager in Training role at Chick-fil-A North Valley is designed for college students and recent graduates who are ready for real responsibility, hands-on business experience, and accelerated leadership development. This is not a shadowing role—you will actively lead teams, make decisions, and gain experience inside a high-performing, multi-million dollar business.

Chick-fil-A North Valley includes both the Deer Valley and Norterra locations, offering a dynamic environment with broad exposure and growth opportunities.

Why This Role Exists

Strong organizations are built by strong leaders.

As our business continues to grow, we are intentionally investing in the next generation of leaders—both from within and from outside our organization. This role exists to develop, equip, and launch high-capacity leaders who can own areas of the business, lead teams with excellence, and create remarkable guest experiences.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll gain real-world leadership skills that translate far beyond the restaurant.

  • How to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment
  • How a multi-million dollar business operates day-to-day
  • How to coach performance, give feedback, and navigate conflict
  • How Owner/Operators think about leadership, stewardship, and community impact
  • How to manage operations, systems, people, and performance metrics
What Success Looks Like

You’re not just working shifts—you’re leading them.

  • Your shifts are organized, efficient, and consistently executed at a high level
  • Your team is engaged, growing, and performing stronger because of your leadership
  • Guests consistently receive exceptional experiences and return because of it
  • You anticipate challenges and proactively solve problems
  • You take full ownership of outcomes and drive solutions with confidence
What You’ll Do

This is where leadership becomes real.

  • Lead and coach teams during high-volume shifts in both kitchen and hospitality
  • Make real-time decisions to protect and elevate the guest experience
  • Develop team members through coaching, feedback, and accountability
  • Support and execute operational systems that drive consistency and excellence
  • Take ownership of key areas and grow in responsibility over time
Who You Are

You’re hungry to grow and ready to lead.

  • You are graduating within the next 6 months or have graduated within the last 6–12 months
  • You are looking for mentorship, challenge, and meaningful responsibility early in your career
  • You take initiative and ownership without needing to be asked
  • You are willing to work hard in a hands-on, team-oriented environment
  • You bring energy, humility, and a strong desire to grow
Growth Path

This is just the beginning.

This role is intentionally designed as a leadership pipeline. Managers in Training who demonstrate strong performance, ownership, and leadership capability will have the opportunity to grow into higher-level leadership roles within Chick-fil-A North Valley.

Commitment & Expectations
  • Full-time, on-site role (38–42 hours/week)
  • Requires flexibility and availability within restaurant operating hours
  • Fast-paced, high-performance environment with hands-on leadership expectations

If you’re looking for more than just a first job—and want a role that will challenge you, grow you, and prepare you for real leadership—this is that opportunity.
